I would like to ask if there are any DeLorean owners/enthusiasts who plan to
attend the DeLorean Eurofest in Belfast in May this year?
If you plan to attend, do you plan to stay at the Europa Hotel, or are you
looking for a cheaper alternative, yet with a high standard close to
Europa's?
Also, I would like to thank DeLorean Worker Joe Murray for his list of
available guest houses.
There are several good guesthouses near Belfast, and particularly one which
looks very promising. It has a very relaxed "home atmosphere" and is
situated outside Belfast City Centre.
Also, it is only 15-20 minutes away from the Dunmurry Factory.
I would think that many owners and enthusiasts are looking for an
alternative accomodation, but I also think it would be bad if we were all
individually spread around in lots of different guesthouses, so maybe we
could try and find two or three places where at least a bunch of people
shared the same guest house?

Hello, list.
Currently my 2.8 litre PRV V6 is being transformed to a leaner,
meaner fighting machine. Yes, it sounds like I'm gloating. I have
the confidence that John Lane of Pacific Rim Automotive is providing
me with the best available parts locally and with his extensive
knowledge of racing a Volvo rally car he knows what needs to be
done. Plus Pacific Rim Auto is only four miles from where I live.
I can't provide any better technical advice than what many
people have posted here on the DML. I don't have a mechanical
background to assist in this project. I am the source of cash.
Therefore, I may not offer a convincing reason as to why this is
quite possibly a better engine conversion as opposed to an engine
replacement.
Yes, I do feel like I went into the conversion lacking enough
education on my options. I had not looked into prices of other
engine replacements. Rumors of close to $20,000 for the new Cadillac
Northstar 300hp V8 engine replacement and $6,995 for a brand new PRV
200hp normally aspirated V6 means first my car would need to be
trailered to someone from Seattle, Washington.
Initially, I bought the car knowing the engine needed a cam
shaft replacement and rocker arm assembly. At 49,800 miles on the
odometer I believed there shouldn't have been much time and money
needed for making the proper repairs. Well come to find out when
opening the leaking valve covers and leaking timing chain cover more
work had been done on the engine then at first realized. Both
camshafts looked newer and cleaner than the blackened rocker arms. A
camshaft lobe was scored due to inadequate lubrication. That was the
source of the ticking. A friend of mine said he could hear my D
before he could see it.
Inside the timing chain cover one timing chain is snug and the
other is loose. Oil pump drive chain and oil pump is noticibly newer
than the rest of the engine. Circular gouges and scratches on the
inside of the timing chain cover coincide with failure of the oil
pump drive chain.
Following John Lane's recomendation the heads were removed and
would you take a look at that, the tops of the pistons were black
with carbon. By this time I wanted what ever could be done to get
the engine in a condition better than it was before it was new.
Meaning stronger and quicker. The following is what will be done:
brand new lighter alloy rocker arm assemblies, brand new Volvo larger
lobe camshafts, ported and polished intake, tossing out PRV block and
replacing it with a good (used) even firing Eagle Premier 3.0 litre
V6 and mating that with the PRV crank case cover, PRV water pump, PRV
Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical fuel injection and loads of other parts.
Today the engine is in pieces. Within the next few weeks it
will be running again. I have taken pictures of the PRV disassembled
and have left my camera with John in order to document the assembly.
Will post costs and picures of this whole affair once I get the
bill.
One last thing. No, three. I also asked John to recharge the
empty A/C and check for leaks. And to figure out why the heck is the
fuel pump making noise every time the engine runs. But, of course
the fuel pump didn't make this noise while test driving the car
before I bought it. The car still has the original suspension
components. John says the shocks are worn out. I've thought about
replacing the front springs with new 1-1/2" lower ones and the shocks
but with the costs of the work being done to the rest of the car I'm
putting that off for a while.
Due to the car being so gosh darn unique I think all this work
making the car better is worth it.

PS. Scott Mueller thanks for the concern regarding the 6.8 magnitude
quake to rock the Puget Sound and beyond. The temporary or permanent
closure of buildings and bridges for quake damage inspection shows
just how much everyone is affected. Fortunately no one died due to
falling debris. From what I understand one lady died of a heart

Were stock rear speakers on the early Corvairs, some of the Corvair
vendors can fix you up too. If you need that lead, I can supply, but
probably plenty around other ways. I had several new ones by Delco but
contributed them to the needy before I got here.

What I am considering doing is mounting the best speakers that I can fit in
the rear panels and then strapping down a bazooka bass cannon (or whatever
they are called) behind the cargo net. It would be a totally reversible
modification that I can take out for shows or to have more room.
That would give me the best of both worlds maybe.

The Europa Hotel is four star and is worth the $70 per night (sharing) for bed and full Irish breakfast with the 3 night package. If someone is on a much cheaper budget then a guest house is an option. Special car parking arrangements have been put in place to ensure the overnight safety of the DeLorean cars attending the event, but guest houses may not have this facility. If bringing your D to Eurofest please check arrangements directly with me. Thanks.

I don't think it's frowned upon... Besides, you do what makes YOU happy. If
others don't like it, that's just too bad! It's your car, so you should do
what you want with it. I used to get a few negative comments on how I've
customized my car to the way I like it. Those people have since decided to

format as equally, or more colorful than the one's that were sent. ;-)

I Have one that says "BKINTIM" which some correctly call back in time, I
also get Bikini Tim and Back in Tim (the worst) I also know 2 other in my
state that have different variations on that phrase, There is Bakntim,
and Bkintym. Another I know of is 882futr or something really close to
that. I haven't heard any thing along the lines of 'how could you do
that.' It seems like most owners have non-BTTF Vanity plates, some are
things relating to the doors like GulWing, hvwings and GalWing, I have
seen some that are DMC12 or even DMC and the Vin. It seems that most
owners approve of the personalized touch, but most either tried to stay
away form the BTTF theme or they couldn't find one that they liked unused

Hey guys,
i have a problem i'm sure everyone here has had - my left turn signal is
twice as fast as it should be! now i know this usually results from a bad
wire somewhere shorting out. however, listen to this:
i tried to tackle the problem last fall and i was checking all of the relays
and fuses and my electrical compartment. i don't remember what i did it but
it seemed to fix the problem. now that my car is coming out from hibernation
in the next couple weeks, it's at it again and i want to make sure the
problem gets fixed. the deal is, i've checked my service manual and none of
the relays correspond to the turn signal. maybe it was just chance and the
light 'fixed itself'?
any good ideas on where to go next? i don't think it's my light circuit
board because the previous owner replaced them with the heavy duty ones. i'd
rather not take my rear fascia off if someone can point me in a more obvious
direction!

I live in Indiana and took a while to decide what to put on my license plate.
I finally decided on N 2 TIME. I did not intend to copy off of anyone
else.
Just so happened it fit on Indiana plates. I think people relate to the car
better

Andy, it just about has to be a difference in current drain between the
two sides. Most often when one side is faster than the other a bulb is
out but presumably you've swarmed all over that. Can't make a case for
a bad wire or short because should that be the case you would lose the
operation of the circuit. Obvious question, are you using the same
wattage bulbs on each side, flasher should react the same to the same
current demand on either side, bet you've got an imbalance, check those
bulbs. No two anything are exactly the same so you could make a case for
a borderline difference and a very sensitive flasher but that's pretty
far out! I go with the above.

Kenwood and Pioneer both make 4" by 10" speakers. I have the Pioneers in my DMC, and if I had it to do over again, I would do as DMC Joe says and put speaker boxes on the parcel shelf. Very flat sound is what you get. But for reference, the speakers are:

Pioneer TS-A4103
Both are available from Crutchfield (www.crutchfield.com) for 99.95
