Just like the starters, ignition coils, and CV boots the speedo cables are among the DeLorean parts that have a less than 1% failure rate. As Bruce indicated all that is needed to keep the DeLorean speedometer working is a shot grease about every 5,000 miles. I use a grease gun ( the same grease I lube the chassis with) with a finely pointed adapter ( available at autostores ) to shoot a bit of grease into the hole opened up by removing that small screw on the underside of the drive.
