On mine, I had the same - I eventually traced the fault to the lights
themselves being wired up incorrectly (probably after the head-lining was
replaced back in the USA). It now works as intended with the purple at the
end where there's only one contact, and the black and the (purple and white)
at the other. Swapping the black and (purple and white) with each other
controls whether the 'courtesy' function operates when the lens points
forwards or backwards, with the 'fully on' being the other position.
And, you might find the time delay circuit can be a bit sporadic - you don't
always seem to get the 'fade' function, depending on how long the door's
been open.
My diodes turned out to be Ok in the end, but this is no guarantee that
yours are, of course!
