Hi John,
I agree with Claire - but then she is in the business.
Cars like an XJS look temptingly low-priced but are ruinously expensive to
run - as I can testify to. Lot's of cars fall into this "low purchase
price/very high running cost" bracket - Maserati's; older Range Rovers;
Ferrari 400's etc...
As to two-seater sports cars in general, your mates won't thank you either
when you can't offer them a lift anywhere because you only have two seats!
Colm.

Hi John,
if you were looking to buy brand new, then some manufacturers offer
free insurance. For instance, at Renault you can buy a new Clio
Dynamique (sporty looking) 1.4 16v or 1.5 dCi on Selections (PCP) and
get one years free insurance. The only stipulation is that you are
over 21 and that the car is bought on Selections. Deposit is only £499
as well :o)
Some 'small cars' have ridiculously high insurance groups because of
their cost to repair after accidents and/or the rate at which they are
stolen. Fiesta's, Corsa's and Nova's are dearer to insure then you
might think because they are easily stolen. My Clio Dynamique 1.2 16v
was group 2 and cost me £188 p/ann fully comp - but then I'm an old
f**t now!.
Hope this helps, but if you need any more info or advice dont hesitate
to get in touch, you can mail me off list if you want.
Cheers,
Claire (wrong side of 30!)
