Just been having a look on the Euro NCAP (European New Car Assesment
Programme) website which gives reports and shows footage of crash
tests on cars (going back to mid 90's).
Interesting reading if you are thinking of buying a car and want to
know how well it will - or more importantly wont - protect you in an
impact (front and side).
http://www.euroncap.com/content/safety_ratings/introduction.php
For instance the (pre 2003) Nissan Micra is a 2 star car, which
basically means you have an 80% chance of being killed or seriously
injured in an impact. The newer the car in design, the better
protected you are, a 1996 Vauxhall Corsa is only 2 stars, the latest
model is 4 stars. The only 5 star car in the supermini class is the
new Renault Modus. **pride!**
The point of all this waffle, is that safer cars are generally lower
insurance groups due to lower payout costs.
