Hi, Since selling my DeLorean last year I've been mostly reading here, not posting, but now I feel I have to react. --- In dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, "David Teitelbaum" <jtrealty@...> wrote: > > Someone explain how some cars still are running > with the origional angle drive with the plastic gears I've had my fair (?) share of angle drive problems on my car too in the 6 years I drove mine; the drive that was on my car when I bought it sheared its cable, so I had to replace it. Trouble was that it was epoxied onto the spindle-nut by a PO, as the bit that goes into the nut turned out to be snapped. I replaced it with a new one from Grady, but they had the HardCores on backorder, so I went with a regular one. On that one the cable came loose from the first gear, which I had repaired by DMC Service (now DMC Europe). That repair broke and was done again under warranty. After that I never had any trouble with the drive ever again, the only maintenance I did was lube it every year. Since the original drive was broken beyond repair I decided to open it up, as I was curious about the legendary plastic gears. They turned out to be METAL! I'm not 100% sure if it was an original angle drive that was on my car, but from the wear and some markings on the outer shell I presume it was. Which makes me wonder if there ever really were plastic gears anyway...
