John, 
As a builder of the DeLorean alternators D110 & D140 customers think that
alternators charge batteries and will let them Idle as if it's charging the
battery. In actuality what is happening the starting of the car is slowly
drawing down the battery faster than it could charge it. 
Think of a 10 amp charger would take 8 hours to charge a almost dead
battery. That's about how long the alternator would take to charge the
battery if it could hold up to charging for that long before it got so hot
it would burn up. Alternators are made to top off the battery and not really
charge them up. The old time generators back in the 50's and 60's were
chargers. Use what ever kind of battery you like, but keep it charged.
Battery cut of switches I have on my web site will stop any drain, but
batteries have a natural drain down from none use. 
This where a float charger comes in.

Stored my D for the winter and have been starting it every week or 
so 
but the battery seems to have died today, which is bad news for a 
few 
reasons - most notably that my Lojack is now dead.  When it first 
failed to start a few days ago, I charged it up with a portable 
charger and it started up. I ran it for a while but when I went back 
to start it a 
day or two later, the battery seems completely dead - just the 
solenoid click and a flickering of the dome light.  This time I 
couldn't even jump start it.
 
My questions:
 
- What are some recommendations on a replacement battery that might 
hold up better to a harsh New England winter in storage?  I don't 
have 
room in my garage for it so it's stored in a non-climate controlled 
storage unit.
 
- The storage unit does not permit any electrical outlet so trickle 
charger is not an option.  Is there anything I can do before putting 
it into storage to prevent this from happening again?  I don't want 
to go through this every year.
