I had a similar issue with alternators too. First replacement I got caused
my volt gauge to jump all over the place. Second one had a bad regulator
from the beginning and cooked my Optima, (I wondered why my binnacle was so
darn bright). Thrid one is working fine for almost a year now.
I also had that same exact pulley you describe. I puchased Toby's custom
one and it's perfect.
I was told if you tighten the belt too much it will wear the bearings much
quicker.
