Charles ,

The first thing you should do is invest in a metric tap and die set.  Availible at sears or an 
autoparts store sometimes.

Gently use the appropriate tap to chase the threads in the aluminum, caution should be 
taken so you don't create new threads. Be sure to put a drop of oil on the tap or WD-40. 
then blow out debrie from the holes. If you don't have compressed air , you can always 
buy air in a can as used for cleaning computers.

Then, I would recommend using the silver aluminum anti-seize compound.
 
As for silicone grease, I would recommend DOW-CORNING number 4. Check your local 
auto parts store or good hardware store.

Lastly, you can use a cooling system tester and pressurize the system to 15 psi it should 
hold for 10-15 minutes without moving if everything is tight. besure to look under the 
entire car for drips and tighten any hose clamps as needed.

Check with your local auto parts store for the tester kit some stores rent them out .  I now 
that CheckerAuto does.
