The temp gauge sender is in the passenger's side cylinder head, on the inside, toward the 'firewall' or the front of the car. It screws into the head with tapered, pipe threads. There is one light green wire connected to it. I always found the wire harder to disconnect than getting the sender out. Once you get the nut off of the connector, any 13/16" wrench or socket should get it out. You may have to use the box end wrench to get a good angle on it, but it ought to succumb to persistance, like everything else. Here's a pic.
