I believe that it was said before that the Rear Defroster was 
installed mainly due to DOT regulations. So hopefully someone can 
clear that one up. But, I can tell you that I have had to use it. If 
the engine is warm, and you have to drive thru flood water, the 
engine compartment will instantly steam up. So then the Rear 
Defroster will definately come in handy! After this, it always clears 
up the rear glass before the quarterpanel glass on the sides.

The Defroster works the same on front engine cars as it does on rear 
engine ones. It's WHEN they get used that makes the difference. Front 
engine cars always have a rubber seal that prevents the steam from 
escaping, and the rear glass has no heat source to quickly fog or 
clear it.

Except for possibly the louvers that may be holding the steam in, 
I've always wondered if MR-2, & Fiero owners have had the same thing 
happen to their cars...
