Dick,

I base this claim on the fact that I pay close attention to turbocharged
DeLoreans when at large DeLorean events. More than half of the
turbocharged cars that I have looked at have some sort of problem where
the crankcase is under pressure. In my case, I suspect it is due to a
cracked ring.

A simple test: With the engine running, remove the breather cap (where
you put oil in the car). Does smoke come out? On a regular car the
answer would be no (or very little). On many of the turbo cars I look
at, smoke pours out and that is at idle!

You may be a bit less aggressive of a driver than most of the other
Turbo owners, or it may be due to the thin air in the area you live (I
am at sea level). Either way, keep an eye out for this when inspecting
Turbo DeLoreans.

However, I disagree with the comments that running 6
lbs. of boost is risky in any way. I, and others,
have put many thousands of miles on the PRV engine
running anywhere from 6 to 7.5/8 lbs. of boost with no
apparent problems. I have personally put over 120,000
miles on twin turbo equipped engines and have had no
engine problems.
