This cannot be correct as there are no idler pulleys involved with the
alternator/water pump belt. It could be that the water pump or the
alternator seized up, bad belt (even though it is new), or bad alignment
between the three pulleys wearing the belt away. The reason for the fluids
all over the ground is possibly due to the belt (when it finally came apart)
cutting one or more of the coolant tubes - you should thoroughly look over
the system before going out on the road again. Check the alignment between
the pulleys - I'll bet they are ok. Check the water pump and alternator (by
hand) to see if they are locked or have unusual amounts of resistance. My
money is on the belt being poorly.
