O.K., this is more a confessional than a possible solution (I think the
statute of limitations on such a crime has expired). When I was a young
chemistry student at UCD we learned the joys of chemically reproducing the
likes of vomit and dead animals and placing a few drops strategically in the
fresh air inlets or door panels of unsuspecting frat boys. This will "ruin"
a car for months, especially on a warm California day. Some degradation
products will spawn microorganisms that will carry on the smell for even
further lengths of time (rotting flesh is good for this). So, good luck,
follow your nose, and check for any budding chemists in the neighborhood!
