David,
Adjusting the valves should be considered as a "last resort fix". If the
problem is other than misadjusted valves, which it more than likely is,
adjusting the valves will significantly complicate the troubleshooting
process. Ninety nine percent of poor engine performance in the De Lorean PRV
is related to fuel and or ignition problems.
Your other suggestions are very accurate.

Backfiring at the air intake usually indicates either a too lean or too rich

Most of the fuel pump noise you hear inside the car is transmitted from the
pump upper fuel lines to the fiberglass body. Try wrapping the hoses with
pipe insulation where the hoses rest against the body and firewall.

Hello all!
I am a new member to this group. My name is Magnus Lindberg, and I
live in Stockholm, Sweden, where I also work a programmer at a small
company.
Let it be said right away: I do not own a DeLorian - YET. I dream of
someday being able to get one. The big problem, of course, is the
price. Another problem is availability, there's not many DeLoreans
around here.
If anyone knows how to get hold of a DeLorean in Sweden (preferably
in Stockholm), please contact me. As I said, I don't have the money
to actually BUY one yet, but I still would appreciate any knowledge
on how to get hold of one (who knows, I might hit the big one on the
lottery).

I have owned my car for four years now and I think like everyone else, I could write a book on fun things that have happened.
Last year we were coming out of Wendys and I had started the car with the remote starter to pre warm it up on a cold winter day. When we got out to it a young Chinese man was looking it over. Parked near us was a huge bus. The young man asked if he could take a picture of the car and was very excited.....he went inside the bus and came out with his camera......then others followed him with THEIR cameras. They were a traveling basketball team. We were surrounded by about thirty people. I asked one if he would like to have his picture taken sitting in the car and his face really lit up. Then I offered to let the others do the same and my wife got out so two at a time could sit in it. They all spoke English and we had a blast telling about the car......The driver asked for our name and address. A couple months later we got a letter with a lot of pictures, from Beijing, China that was signed by a lot of these kids with comments and thanking us for being so nice to them. Made our day! We enjoy this type of thing and have never found any problem in showing it off like this.
On the other hand we go to lots of car shows where there are signs "don't touch this car unless you are nude". Ho Ho. Everyone to their own poison I always say. One man next to me showing his 308 Ferrari, asked if I cared if he cleaned the fingerprints from my car as the people touched it! I usually don't even bother until the show is over. And I have gotten several first place trophys...fingerprints and all! I will admit that I am sure I wouldn't even PLACE in a DeLorean only show though.

I see there are two airports in Belfast. Which is the preferred one to use??
There are a number of flights from New Jersey/New York for under $400, but those
deals all seem to end by mid April. :( Has anyone gotten any good deals to
fly?
Also, is the currency standard there a Euro? Looks like the conversion from USD
to EUR is almost 1:1, (1 EUR = .92321 USD Today). Makes things easier to
calculate if in fact the hotel prices and such are EURO.. Anyone know for sure?

Having been Factory Service Mgr for Craig Car Stereo in the late 70's, I
can tell you that the ribbon cable that feeds the display has a hairline
sheer.
I am inclined to agree with David T. (vin 10757)
The everage tech will have great difficulty attempting to repair this flex
cable. It can be repaired but requires EXTRAORDINARY skill to properly jump
the traces on the flex PC. There is a detailed post on this in the DML
archives tech area.
However, 1 key point was NOT addressed. If you are successful at repairing
the ribbon cable it will break again.
The problem:
YOU MUST reroute the flex cable OVER the top hinge bar that the display hangs
on instead of under it. By routing it OVER the bar, when the cassette door
opens inward it won't kink the cable. It will flex in a graceful arc.
The down side:
The cable itself becomes a quater inch shorter and might not reach the
plug. This depends on the revision of the main radio board and the plug's
exact placement.
At this point the hard work is done and extending the flex cable's leads to
meet the plug is fairly easy.

Last night, as I pulled into a gas station, a woman on he other side of the pump island was pumping gas into her car. I heard her turn to the driver and say "Hey, take a look at this guy's Ferrari" When she finished pumping her gas, she came ove and asked me if it was a Ferrari. I explained it to her, but she kind of shrugged, indicated she'd never heard of a Delorean (even mentioning the BTTF movies didn't spark any recognition for her), and wanted to know if they were still being made. An interesting encounter - at least she never asked anything about cocaine! ;)

To update everyone on my engine swap, just over a year ago, I started on
swaping out my DeLorean motor with a Chevy 4.3 Vortec V6 engine. Last night
I completed the task. It has been a very challenging and interesting swap
to say the least!!! I cannot tell you how sweet it sounded when the engine
finally turned over for the first time. Considering I had to adapt the
Chevy computer to the DeLorean, it really was quite simple. I would like to
give alot of thanks to the people who helped me out the most in reaching my
goal: Mike Bell for all his advice, parts and past experiences that helped
me avoid some bad choices on mine. If it wasn't for his insight, the thing
would still be in pieces :) DMCJoe for ALL his continued help and EXTREME
knowledge of the DeLorean which was invaluable and Darryl Tinnerset on his
input and advice! I would also like to thank all of the other DeLorean
owners who gave their support as well!
I still have to do something with the exhaust (having custom headers made)
but that is the last piece of the puzzle! I have a friend that does custom
exhaust work and he is in need of some PC technical help so we will be
working out a deal :o)
Swaping out the engine wasn't actually as bad as I thought it would be
(however, I did have ALOT of help from the people noted above, and one heck
of a phone bill ;o) ) I am in no way a automotive engineer, I am just a
regular average person who wanted a little more performance out of the car
(not to mention now if I have a prob, I can just go to any parts store on a
Sat or Sun and they'll have the part I need! :) ) Once I have the headers
installed, I will take it to the dyno to see exactly what I've gotten out of
it. I will post pics and details of the swap later this weekend.

Congrats on the engine swap. You don't realize how my heart sank when you
gave up and offered your car for sale not long ago. I'm glad that you were
able to work through it.
I am curious to know if that is a steel or aluminum block engine you put in
there. I think I asked this question before, but I don't remember. From
the photos, it looks like a steel block. I've heard complaints that the
weight of a steel block engine can affect the handling. If I ever attempt a
swap, I'm going to try something light weight.

Hello,
I am in the process of replacing all the speakers in my car. The other
ones are rotted out. I would prefer not to use 4x10 speakers in the rear
again. what is the biggest speaker I can fit in there. Will a 5x7 fit with
the right sized magnet? or will I have to do something more like a 4x6? I
just dont want to change the appearance of the interior so it needs to fit
back there!
Also, if I decide to put a sub or 2 would it be a bad idea to put them in
the trunk?

Hi all,
I was experiencing some spedo bounce, and I thought it might be the
angle drive, but it turns out that it was the plastic cup. Thanks to
the list, I was able to fix it without worrying about whether or not
it was supposed to be loose like that. Anyways, my post is really
about the wheel nuts. I had THE worst time getting them untightened!
I had a two foot breaker bar and some Break Away bolt loosener, and
even with that I ended up twisting, yes TWISTING the stock lug nut
wrench. It has been said before I know, but please use a torque
wrench when tightening! It was amazing that I did not damage the
studs. I did however have to go out and buy four new lug nuts... boy
where they mangled!

I have been helping Robert Lamrock to get Euro Fest 2001 some publicity here in N.Ireland
We decided to get an article in the local newspaper.
I have already posted the article on this site.
This newspaper does not post photographs on its web site that's why no photograph was included in my message
In the newspaper there IS a great photograph of yours truly in the DeLorean car
outside the plant at Dunmurry Belfast N.Ireland
Robert and I met the Photographer up at the plant last Saturday and had about 10 different pictures taken at 2 different sites at the plant.The De.on its own The De with Robert The De.with Me The De. with both of us and so on.
Then much to our surprise the photographer handed his camera to Robert and ask if he could have his picture taken with the De for his own use and of course Robert obliged.
Soon Robert and I will be on local radio and T.V.telling the local people about Euro Fest 2001.if they don't already know
This Euro Fest 2001 is going to be BIG.
Come and see were your DeLorean was born.
Nobody can Party like an Irishman.Nobody gets to bed until

Interesting, except for one obvious fault. The doors pivot at the
edge of the roof, not the center, so they would require quite a bit
of clearance space to open, and one would quite easily be able to
hit their head on the door when both getting in and getting out.
Not quite as practical, or as good-looking as the gullwings on our
DeLoreans.

No, the earthquake yesterday did not impact us directly....epicenter was
250 miles from us near Olympia....I am wondering how Dan Tinnerstet fared
tho as he lives RIGHT THERE. Also many D owners in that area, including
Arnie Brandon, Pres of the PNW D club. Our daughter who works at the U in
Seattle Email'd us and said she was in the Presidents office where she
works and dived under his desk and lucky he was not there first. Ho Ho.
Very fortunate that there were no fatalities so far when the one in India
had 17,000 killed with one not much bigger!
