Subject: DMC Door Handles
Just a quick note: I just recieved one of the new door handle
assemblies
that DMC Houston has started reproducing and I must say it's one of the
best
and nicest pieces I've ever seen. The attention to fit, finish and detail
is
exceptional and when installed it looks "factory", which many times is
harder
to do then most people realize. This is one replacement part that will
eliminate any future need for repair or replacement.

I am looking for the wiring diagram for the Craig radio harness. I
see
that DMC Joe has posted a wiring diagram for the ASI radios but I dont see
one for the Craig. I thought they might be the same but they are not, at

I had discovered some of this info from the US Customs ... but not the
details on 'exemptions!' This will hopefully help considerably if US
Customs
agrees to let me import my D for one year.
Had to laugh ... "exemption for members of foreign armed forces" should
make
it easy for the Lybians should they ever invade the USA!!!
My plan is to get the car running using required spares from my parts-car
in
S.California. I will then give it to a DMC shop for full restoration
(anyone
know of a cheap shipping method to the East Coast/Texas DMC Shops?). This
will be a "keeper" so I want everything done 110%.
Has anyone had a full restoration carried out? Where, your comments, total
ball-park price, etc would be useful information.

May I suggest John Cash's "I Walk The Line" to check and see if the hum is
in
tune. Also need to see what key the hum is in, as this maybe related to
the
"whine" of the tires (depending on type, size and if the original rims are
used or not) on various pavements, which could be affected by the height
of
the car (original shocks vs. lowering kits) in relation to the cross wind
speed. Every once in a while you get the chance to have a little fun with
a
post. To the original poster, hope the others have more important input
than
mine. I just couldn't let this post die without having a stab at humor.

Very common problem with the craig radios. The display is in the
little door for the cassette tape. It is wired through a "flexible"
printed circuit. After years of flexing the pc fails. To date there is
no satisfactory repair or replacement for this. The best thing to do
is either install an ASI or some other suitable replacement.

Be sure when installing the fuel pump not to rotate it or you WILL
kink the pickup hose. It will starve the pump and will be worse as the
level of fuel goes down. Install a spring inside the pickup hose to
prevent the pump's vacuum from collapsing the hose and preventing
kinks. It does not restrict the flow.

greetings..
more often than not, i find myself giving "tours" of my car everytime i
take
her out. it is just part of owning such a unique automobile. i will
admit,
it sometimes is not convenient but the admirers don't realize that they
may
be causing some kind of an inconvenience. for that reason, i always try to
be accomodating. i also will normally invite people to "have a seat".
take, for example, an instance last summer when i was washing the car in
my
driveway when an older gentleman in a cadillac kept circling my house. i
could see him straining to see the car but i guess he was too worried
about
being a nuissance to stop and "bother" me. after his 5th or 6th trip back
and forth infront of my house, i flagged him down.. he immediately pulled
into the driveway and got out of the car. i asked him if he was lost or
just checking out the car. he seemed a little embarrassed and said that
he
was looking at the car. and i told him that he'd never get a good look at
it from the road. he hopped back into his car.. i thought i had offended
him (i was only trying to be conversational) but that was put to rest when
he got back out with a camera in hand and started circling the car. this
guy had the look of a kid at christmas on his face. he took some pictures
and asked if i would mind taking one of him next to the car. i did and
offered to let him sit in the car.
the gentleman explained to me that he had the opportunity to buy a de
lorean
in the 80's and passed on it. he had regretted it ever since. he said
that
he hadn't seen one for almost 15 years and that it was just luck that he
found me because he lives in montreal (i live in new liskeard, ontario)
and
was up here visiting some family.
the reason for the long post?? well, i made this man's day just by being
a
nice guy. he only wanted to admire the car and i made the experience
special for him by just talking to him. as the owner of an "exotic", it
is
easy to become complacent towards the car and forget how special they are
to
some people.. just remember that next time you're at a light and the
people
in the car next to you strain to get a good look..!
