One small detail which can make your life a lot nicer, selves both Oil
sender leads with heat resistant covering for about 11 inches, right and
left. this will prevent heat related shorting of these leads down the
road.

If you are in NYC, you can stop by PJ Grady and talk to him about it.
My car had the Island Twin Turbo when I bought it, and I am happy with
it.  As most of you know, I am currently having some engine problems,
but Rob Grady said that it is not likely that it was caused by the
turbo.

To prevent damage, to turbo's are limited to about 6Lbs of boost.  It
does add a nice punch, and keeps me neck and neck with a Mustang 5.0 off
the line.

I have not seen any messages from anyone saying that they had gotten the
Turbos, and were not happy.  It all depends on what you want to get out
of your car.

My car has been lowered, and has a spoiler on the back.  It was this
when when I got it, so I dont know where they were purchased, but the
car was serviced by Grady for the past 2 owners before me, so I would
bet he could give you some info on it.

If you want to see it live and in person, My car (#6068) is at PJ grady
now.  I may be picking it up this weekend (If it is ready, and the
weather will be nice!)  I am usualy not a big fan of spoilers, but I
think it looks good on the DMC.

Not that it is a big deal, but when you put the spoiler on, you either
need to add "locks" to the lift struts (like mine has), or Rob Told me
that he has some new struts that do not need the lock to handle the
extra weight of the spoiler.

I am 6'1" and I fit fine with room to spare.  John Z. DeLorean is even
taller than that, and he was troubled by the lack of space in most
sportscars.  He specified that the DeLorean should accomodate a very
tall driver.  Also, when you are getting in and out, the gullwing doors
give
you much better head clearance than a typical sportscar.

I can honestly say that my DeLorean is the most reliable car I have ever
owned.  Of course, I've had a few dogs.  You probably heard that new
DeLoreans had a few notorious quality problems from the factory.
Remember, that was 17 years ago!  If you buy a DeLorean now its
reliability has a lot more to do with the previous owner than the design
and construction at the factory.

If you are thinking about buying a DeLorean I suggest you devote one or
two days to reading the DML back issues.  They are available at
www.dmcnews.com under "archive."  This will give you some idea of
the trials and tribulations of owning a DeLorean.  Keep in mind that most
people post to the DML only when they have a problem.  While you are
there you might download the premier issue of the DMC News 'zine.

When you get serious, you should join the DeLorean Owner's
Association and get all the back issues of DeLorean World Magazine.
IMO those back issues are worth their weight in gold.  They also give the
"upside" of DeLorean ownership, with a lot of positive stories from
happy DeLorean owners.  Surf over to www.deloreanowners.org and
check out their Internet Special offer of 1 year membership plus all the
back issues (perfect for you).  You could also learn a lot at the DOA
Expo, which this year will be in Los Angeles on Labor Day weekend.

BTW the DOA currently has a "Superbowl Special" which offers free
shipping through January.  Only two days left to get that deal.

Good luck!

heat shield in car designs are usually "patches" bad layout design
causes the need for such things. Basically they're there for a reason.
Removing it will eventually cause something to melt or fry !

I'm 6' 2" and fit in the car OK.  However, overhead clearance is marginal

slightly
on my hair, causing some "static cling".

My roomate, who is 6' 8", doesn't have any serious problem fitting into
my
Delorean.  He ducks his head while shutting the doors, but can drive it
without
a problem.  It may be worth noting that his own car, an Acura NSX, and my
D are
the only two sports cars he's found which really accomodate his size.  So
if
you're less than 6' 8", I wouldn't worry about not fitting into the car.
(I'm 6' 0" and have no problem at all).

I noticed last night after pausing my VCR on the 3 seconds you see the

missing. Do you think (or someone might know) this was a mistake or done
on purpose?  Would doing this allude/or get out of any royalties or
credit to JZD and his car company?  I have no clue.  Am I even wrong to
think this?

The rule of 15K has been a good one in getting to a price that makes an
DMC a
driver. I spent right at 10K for my DMC, (I'm the third owner). The
previous
owner had called the car her baby. It was and still is a daily driver. I
have
put about 5K + or - into to it. If you do buy cheap then expect to put
some
time and money into it to make it a solid ride. I have also known people
who
have paid much more and had to spend more to make their car drivable. A
car
that has sat for long amounts of time will have rubber to be replaced and
chances are that all the electrical updates have not been done. Review
the old
newsletters to get an idea of what this will be. All of us here on the
newsletter will be more than happy to help. Good luck on your DMC hope
you get
a good buy.

Many of the DMC-12 were made without the logo on the grill and / or the
hood
lettering.  It is just probably on of the DeLoreans that did not have the
DMC logo on its grill, but whatever it is, I am sure that this movie is
going to be amazingly funny.

Re the logo on the grill:  I may abe wrong, but I think all the D's had
the
grill logo.  Many have, for various reasons, taken theirs off ( I did on
my
previous D).  The hood logo first asppeared on the 82/83 models.

Hello altogether :-)
Two problems with my DeLo (VIN 6795, grey, manuel transmission:
1. I wan4t to remove my steering wheel because to do some upholstery on
it. How
can I remove it without the help of a special tool ???
2. After a few days of standing around my batterie is not quite empty but
to low
to start the car (approx. 8 V). The batterie is the right type, quite
new,the
power consumption between the batterie and the disconnected power-cable
is very
low, approx. 0,1 mV (the digital clock I think). The charging system
seems to be
allright (the mechanic told me). ANY IDEAS ??????
Thank you for answering

The DeLorean Mailing List continues to grow (one the better known
parts/service facilities was subcriber #895 just last week) and growing
pains accompany it.

The DeLorean Mailing List is NOT a "bulletin board system". It is not
meant for conversation between two individuals. If you want to get on the
model list, or the key list, or want more info about a car that someone
has for sale - email that person DIRECTLY, do not just hit the "REPLY"
button and send it to the list because I will delete it. In the past I
have made the effort to forward it to the person rather than clog the
list. The list has grown too big to be babysat like this.

I also encourage the individuals posting things for sale to the list to
specifically state in their message that they should be replied to
personally, and not through the list.

Subject: DML: outer door/roof seal

Ok, I just had the outer door to roof seals replaced. My question is
will the seals rip or deteriorate because they are hitting the bolts
that hold the t-toof onto the body? The old seals were totally cracked
in half and didnt even make contact with the roof of the car. These new
ones seal well(hasnt rained on it yet)but I am worried they will crack
again beacuse when the door is open all the way they touch/bend from the
bolts. Is this how all DeLoreans are? Another question. At the rear of
these same seals there is a one inch space between it and the other
seal, making a perfect way for water to get in. I know the water goes in
and is supposed to travel down the channels and out the bottom, but is
the one inch space supposed to be there? Thanks for the help.

Try some Acetone.  (sp).  Its been my chemical of choice for
removing adheasives and glues of different types.  But, I'm not
sure if it will remove the stickers or not.  Never had to remove any!

The way we clean up the race cars is to use a hair drier set at the
hottest
setting.  Work a small area (approx 12') at a time.  Gently peel the decal
off.  Take your time.  Works great on painted surfaces, should be a snap
on
S.S..
If you insist on chemicals,  try 3M's 08984 general purpose adhesive
cleaner,
(read: wetherstripping adhesive remover.)  Be patient, good luck.  Joe

I'm with Joe on this one - I've used a heat gun for this very purpose and
find that it works better and  safer than any chemical. You must be
careful around the moldings, especially with a heat gun, however.

Hi Justin,

        And to ALL DML members.......

It's Clear that many DML members want the model kits, so as a sort of pre
production report or update and a list will be started. I hasten to remind
every one that This will be a "KIT" not a finished model. A certain amount
of skill and time will be required to assemble and finish the model. Like
all plastic model kits, there is no guarantee that the buyer will get a
perfect model or even finish the assembly.

I will assemble one in order to write and publish the assembly manual. I
am by no means a professional kit builder, which means that getting better
results by potential buyers is a foregone conclusion. It's clear that
there
is a world of difference between manufacturing a kit and assembling one.

At this time every one who has requested to be on the order list is now
in
a file. There will be a general posting and a direct e-mail announcement
when the Kits are available.

Currently the kits are complete with all outward modifications to look
like an 81DMC12. In phase two working doors, hood, louver and engine deck,
will be developed. Phase three will be detailing of the engine and
transmission. The fourth phase would be a frame and the underbody. Then of
course the release of the kits.

As mentioned previously, the release will be in lots of 10 as a numbered
collection limited to 100 at the most. Sale of the kits will be on a first
come first served basis. Each Ordering information certificate will
contain
the edition number of the kit. Each Kit will contain two coupons which
will
entitle the holder to one engraved VIN tag in 1/24th scale and one set of
custom License plates that can contain their own DMC license plate, in
1/24th scale.

Any one who has not already asked to be on the model list may do so now.
Just send me e-mail (lseiler@xxxxxxxxxxxx) and post "DMC model-List". your
name will be added to the current text file of DML members. If you have
already sent e-mail of any kind related to the DMC Kit project then you
have been put on the list. I will post this list some time in Feb, for you
to check to see what your edition number will be. The list may be re
sorted
from time to time in the event we have lost some one. Based on the current
interest it appears that the first 100 editions will be assigned before
the
end of Feb 98.

Remember that there are limitations placed on the DMC-12 kits.   Only
DML members will be eligible, and only on a first come first serve basis.
Your place in line will determine your kit edition number. The first 10
numbers are already registered starting with JFD-(001) and ending with
James Espy-(010).  If or When the "Order Invitations" are sent out there
will be a 30 day response time limit, in the event that some one who has
received their invitation and there is no response back to me, the edition
number will be applied to the next in line of un registered order request
line. This will be a one shot deal, at least for the first 100 editions.
Like the real DMC there is a finite number of parts supply, it may not be
possible to Mfg., more than the initial 100 kits.

I am looking into how to meet the international limited collection
register. If I can meet the requirements, each limited edition kit will
include a printed certificate of authenticity, with the name and edition
number printed on it and sealed with an embossed cold leaf seal (like a
title). I am quite serious about producing a legitimate limited edition
item.

Thanks,

Lee
