I have just bought a used Delorean and wanted to know if they make
blackout light covers for the front headlights of the car. I have
seen some in pictures but do not know how to get them can anyone
help?? Also I wanted to know if the factory painted any Deloreans
that came out in 1981, if so what colors came out?? I have heared
that some were painted but not confirmed this info. please let me

One thought that was not discussed regarding poor condition cars was
what happens to the titles of the parted out cars.

Right now there are Deloreans that are being parted out because of the
value of the parts.

If the Delorean does evolve into a very desirable classic car like a
camaro or mustang, titles from junked or "cut up" cars become valuable.

I have seen people resurrect Camaros and mustangs out of pieces from a
junk yard and use and old title to make the car legal.

The Delorean has great potential in this area.

First you buy a SS frame from Brian Pierce. Then you get left over
pieces of fiberglass bodies.
and the other parts that DMC has and you can build a Delorean. The
important piece though will be the title.

It won't take much for this to happen. Camaro and Mustang that are
totally restored can go for $20,000. There are people who find that
this is the price point at which putting a car together is economically
feasible.

So what should you do if you are stripping a D. First, of all sell as
many parts as you. Then give away what you can't sell. Finally, if
you have to get rid of what is left DO NOT GIVE IT TO A JUNK YARD AS A
CAR. Keep the title and cut up the rest and dispose of it in pieces.

That title may be very valuable in the future.

The more Deloreans that are on the road the more maintenance parts that
will be necessary and that will make reproducing parts more feasible.

Look what Shelby did with 75 left over titles from the 70's.

BOB

Subject: how to get to washer fluid reservoir?

Hey list,

ever since i got my car the washer fluid reservoir won't pump and it
leaks. i
want to get it working again but all the screws that hold the pan up just
spin in place!! not much room for a drill.

any ideas? i don't want to remove the quarter panel just for this. it's
not
THAT big a deal since my car never gets that dirty anyway. but it's the
only
thing on my car that doesn't work.

Andy

I have made the arrangements with the host hotel for the event, since
it is now a 2 day event for the people who are not local I have a
local hotel to stay over in. The hotel is the Park Ridge Marriott. The
phone # is 800-882-1038. We have a block of 20 rooms set aside for us
and they will hold them and the rate until April 5 so if you want to
know you have a room at our group rate you must reserve by then. Be
sure to tell them that you are a member of the "Delorean Club" event.
The rate is $104 plus tax 6%. For the breakfast buffet on Sunday you
can either reserve it when you make your reservation and get the group
rate or you can pay for it on the day of. The reserved rate is an
additional $20 on the room rate or $124 for 2 people. If you elect to
go P/P the day of the rate is $12.95 each. Or you can just go
A-La-Carte and order off of the menu. I suggest you make your
reservation way before April 5 as towards that date things may fill up
fast. If you do make your reservation you can cancel up till the day
of (I think) and not get charged. You might want to check on that (I
forgot to ask). Wait till tomorrow (Tuesday) as it may take a while
for our group to get into the reservation system. Remember this is for
April 26, 2003 Saturday evening-Sunday morning.

Subject: Re: master cylinder service

I did this job this past summer.. very straight-forward.

Go to Autozone and get Fernco part number M52329 - it's the same master
cylinder, only cheaper (that is, if you choose not to get one from the D
vendors). It will come with two little hoses and adapters for bench
bleeding the cylinder before installation. Do NOT skip this step. Good
instructions are included with the Fernco part. There is also a
core-charge, so be sure to return your old cylinder.

You will need to transfer the old reservoir to the new cylinder. It's easy
- two cotter pins/spring clips - don't lose them!. Be sure to mount it in
the same direction as the original. If your reservoir was as bad as mine,
you may need to wash it out using lots of new brake fluid (do not use
water!). There was quite a bit of grime/tar inside my reservoir. (BTW,
the old brake fluid that came out of my car looked like coffee!). And a
word of advice - you may want to wear oil-resistant rubber gloves for the
entire repair - my hands were brake-fluid soaked for about a week or two
after doing this, and it's not a nice feeling at all.

Once you have the new cylinder bench bleed and installed, get one of
these: http://www.aep.bigstep.com/eezi.htm

It's a $35 one-man pressure-bleeder kit that works really well and is very
easy to use. It hooks upto a spare tire for pressure. Just don't let the
brake fluid bottle run dry, or else you'll have to start all over again.
You have to remove the rear wheels to bleed the rear brakes, but you don't
need to remove the front wheels.

At the same time as the master cylinder repair, I also replaced my old,
stretched rubber brake lines with the stainless steel ones available from
several D sources. This is a tougher job, but well worth it. (It's not
complicated, just time and strength consuming getting the old lines out -
they could be frozen). Be sure to have the proper tools before starting
this job.

-Hank
