couldn't you just make a link on your website to accept paypal payments that way you can
accept payments easier, faster and safer? mailing in a payment can be slow and sometimes
can get lost, with paypal you could ship the magazine the next day because you would
have the payment for the subscription now.

Kepec = Kapac. Kapac was the part of Sol Shenk's Consolidated
Industries (Columbus Ohio) that ended up with the assets of the DMC
Corporation after bankrupcy. Consolidated actualy loaned DMC money,
using the cars and assets as collateral. They oversaw the assembly of
the final (all 1983-model) cars built after DMC was closed down.
Kapac ended up with all the parts etc. that were then purchased by
DMC-Houston a couple of years ago.

BTW - I talked to this seller - he is indeed selling the car for a
friend and does not know much about it (or what a 5000-mile DMC is
worth, apparently). His ad is also posted at www.dmcnews.com.

My TABs were ok. They were straight and the lines looked clean (no visible
stretching).
However: my big fat washers on the pass. side were a bit messed up. On the
head side, the one closest to the frame was concussed and the insides of the
hole were mushroomed in to the bolt so that it wasn't easy to move off. I
think it must have been moving a little, banging and compressing it.
I flipped them all around and put them back in. I wish the TAB's came with
new washers so that I could have saved them out and taken pictures. (I was
too grimy to go hunting the camera).
BTW- I wasn't happy about the funky head until I sat down and tried all my
sockets and found that the 3/4 star bit (our whatever you call the ones that
are not octagonal) fit like a bug in a rug. Then I was quite pleased.
I took her out for spin, squealing tire corners and everything; I had
nothing from the back end except an occasional light whoomp. So that must
have been my clunking though no one could find it.

Subject: DeLorean parts on eBay.

Recently I've been following the auctions on eBay, and have noticed an
increase of the amount of parts that are being auctioned off. Is it just me
, or is anyone else alarmed by this at all? Aside from parts/repair availability, the biggest peice of mind for my car has been theft. After all, if it was stolen to be stripped, where would someone be able to sell parts? Now that I see at aleast 2 cars being parted out on eBay right now, I don't feel quite as "safe" in that respect. In otherwords, it would totally suck if my car was stolen, stripped, and sold off in pieces on eBay. This appears to very much be a reality now. Granted whenever I remove a panel, or replace a part, I always write my name, the date, my signature, and any message that comes to mind in either permanent marker, or a paint pen (when it comes to the # of times I've written my name, I'm almost running neck and neck with "chaka"). It was for fun at first to add to the "cave paintings" underneath, but now I do it mainly as a security precaution in the same way that newer vehicles have tamper-proof stickers with their VIN #'s attached to the body panels.

There are many auto security systems available, so i will be installing a new
one. The one that came with it doesn't work. My dome lights flash, the clearance lights are on a delay, and the doors don't always unlock. I can't

imagine what the person installing it was thinking... And of course there is the inertia switch. In the mean time though, I think that it would be a good idea to first verify parts sources for online auctions and sales before buying. That way if either thru the DOD, or even DMCH the VIN@ could be checked against a list of cars that were reported stolen/vandalized. If someone started parting

out a Ferrarri, Lamborgini, or other exotic, I'm sure that quite a few questions
would be asked. Going upon past eBay scams involving DeLorean cars, and
the sudden increase in parts for sale, I've just started to become uneasy about
things. You'd also be surprised by the auctions that pop-up time to time that
you don't see because people keep mispelling the word, "DeLorean".

Just my .2¢, and now I'm done.

Kevin, With no opposing force to make the clutch disk slip, I doubt you could
tell if it was slipping with wheels off the ground. I would say to a trained
mechanic, it would be hard to tell if the clutch was slipping. When on the
ground your trying to move about 3000 LB's with a person in the car.
When you put the car in gear and let out on the clutch pedal, you would feel
it slip before it goes. Another way would be, the further you have to push
down on the clutch pedal to dis engage the transmission.
When you put in a new clutch and compare to the old one, you'll really see
what I mean.

Am I the first person in the "western World" to own a Gold Sun Star
DeLorean?

Well I was stocking up with regular, Sun Star models at my importers in
England, to be ready for the Christmas rush, when a young assistant said "
we are just unpacking the Gold cars, do you want any?!!!!

What do you think!!!  I bought 6!

I've had a good look at the car and its generally very good.
My recent research for my new book has made something of an expert on the
Gold plating of the original two ( plus one) cars.  I can reveal that the
match is very good.

If I was being picky, when I compare my original piece of "Bridge of Weir"
brown leather, ( Colour match 7D7) to the model, the model is slightly too
"light" brown in colour, but not too bad.

The exhaust trims are also wrong, comparing it to an original gold one I
have,   they should be round, polished stainless steel, and gold plated. The
model has angled one's, with a silver look.

A bit of a coup for the UK club!

Please don't ask for supplies of these outside the UK, we are only a small
club and just cant handle "selling abroad".  Your own vendors should be
getting them soon.

Ok,here is one that has me stumped.
How do I remove the ignition switch(the key lock ignition switch
p/n106679) from the steering column shaft?
Not the process on how to get to it to remove it,that part was not a
problem,But to acutally,remove it OFF the steering column shaft,it
seems to have two huge rivits (or some kind of special bolts)that
attach it directly to the steering shaft.Do these have to be drilled
out to remove the ignition switch,and then how do you reattach them.

Bill,

I would assume that this car was one of the last ones (83's) that were
purchased by Kapac (Consolidated International) when DMC went into
receivership.  At this point Kapac purchased all of DMC's inventory -
including unsold cars.  Kapac then sold the remaining DeLoreans at approx
$22,000 a piece.  I have a video clip from this time where an Entertainment
Tonight-type show interviewed the owner/director of Kapac.  They also pan the
Kapac lot showing over a hundred DeLoreans unsold in the background.  There's
nothing super-rare about a "Kapac car". 

An interesting note - my car is VIN 11596, build date of Jan 1982.  In my
paperwork for the car i have some Kapac documents outlining warranty
information for my car including a buisness card for Kapac employee Donald L.
Bowman.  On the top of the document in typewriter type is "Chesrown
Oldsmobile-GMC Columbus OH."  The document then goes to say that the Issuer
of the Warranty is DeLorean Motor Car, distributed by Consolidate
International.   the next page is more warranty information for a 1 yr/12K
mile insured service contract.  again it says by DeLorean motor car
distributed by Consolidated International.  the delivery date of my car was
4/15/83.  

Anyone have any idea why a car that was built in Jan of 1982 didn't get
delivered to the owner until April 1983?  anyone have any idea where the car
was for a year? was it seriously on a dealer lot that long, and then Kapac
bought it and sold it to the first owner?  I'd be interested in anyone's
thoughts pertaining to this!!

I believe the guy on Ebay means "Kapac", which is what Consolidated
International, the company that had the remaining spare parts and some of
the last Deloreans sold, turned into.

Jeff, a few weeks ago I financed mine though JJ Best & Co out of
Chatham MA. It was a slam dunk and only took two days. I insured
through Esurance.com (equally painless) at the advice of a DMC fan
page. My favorite so far has been the $15/yr. registration fee in CA -
who would have thought ANYTHING would be so cheap in this state? :)

Subject: best way to drop drive axles?

Hey all,

soon i intend on dropping my drive shafts for boot service and to clean the
CV joints and repack them.  is this best done:

1. with the car lifted up and the suspension hanging
2. with the car lifted up and the wheels jacked up to simulate load.

any tips out there, i would appreciate it before i begin.

i have been doing quite a bit of 'little things' on my car so far this
winter.  i finished a valve adjustment this month which included getting the
valve covers and control pressure regulator glassbeaded and painted.  they
look excellent!  i also removed my muffler and polished the tips ('82 style),
replaced all the bolts and washers for the mounting brackets, and had the two
main brackets glassbeaded and painted black.  we'll see how long that lasts! 
i also removed my catalytic converter (which happened to be hollowed out by a
previous owner, and i just discovered that when i got the thing out!!) and am
installing the eliminator pipe from Ed Uding.  i just need some hardware for
that i'm ready to go. also purchased the K&N kit from Marty Maier. Right now
i removed my engine compartment crossbrace, the bracket that holds the
ignition resistors to the firewall, and the bracket that holds the
diagnositic plug to the head, i had all three of those glassbeaded and they
are currently at the powdercoaters getting coated black.

after i get this done, then i will do my driveshafts, followed by a steering
rebuild with a rebuilt steering rack, new tie rod ends, and a new
intermediate shaft from Darryl Tinnerstet.  then.......... well then i need
to think about what i will eventually do with my frame! 

why does winter have to last so long and why is it only the end of november?
i want to drive!
