I must admit that I have never taken an Angle drive to bits. I know they
have a rather high failure rate, I have needed 2 over the years. I also know
that one of the American clubs sells a "beefed up" one. Speedograph are
working on replacement. I just assumed that the internal bits were plastic,
wrongly, it seems. Apologies for any confusion caused.
I'm still looking for a spare 85mph speedo head..working of not, condition
unimportant. Has anybody got one they could send me? I can then try and get
an "Exchange" service for a 140 MPH one...work out costs, asses quality etc.

I find this very interesting. Every Delorean angle drive I've rebuilt,
and it's been quite a few, has had metal gears in it. I've never taken a
Delorean angle drive apart that has had plastic gears inside.

Do you mean the upper seat belt mount? If this is the case and that part
is loose- then you can't take the seat belt fastener bolt out. The bolt
screws into the cylindrical fastener. This fastener (sorta like a huge
rivnut) goes through the body to underneath the vent just to the rear of
the door.
Mine was spinning in place, and i fixed it (rather unelegantly) by
drilling a hole through the spinning piece and the body and putting in a
pin.
If the piece you're referring to is the SPACER between the seat belt bolt
and the body, simply tightening the bolt should be fine. The plastic
piece on the upper seat belt mount just pops off...
If you're talking about soemthing totally different, then nevermind...

Andy, If you would like to see what the Air Breather would look like painted
clear but don't want to make it permanent at this time. After you clean it
all up. Don't laugh, Spray it with hair spray. It has lacquer in it and will
give it a temporary shine till it rains. I use it all the time for car shows
on the black.

He found a place that does it for a fairly reasonable price. They'll even
do custom stuff like a gray and black mix if you have a gray interior, or
anything else you want. It seems to me they were in Houston, but I'm not
positive of that. He said he just mailed the steering wheel to them and
they turned it around in a very reasonable time period.

With all the talk about new radio I did the same just
took my car in to Fry electronic and had the radio
installed works and looks fine.
As for the speakers I did not want to rip and tear
into the rear speakers so I bought 2 6X9's and bout to
speaker boxes for 15 dollars each and the gray
covering on them almost matches my interior carpeting.
worked out great for me.
The installed cost me 100.00

After updating my car with window felt from a Ford Probe (see
http://www.dmcnews.com/Techsection/windowfelt.html), I went back to the
Pick 'N Pull to see if I could track any more down. I found similar felt
from an '88 Nissan and I also managed to put together a slightly
mismatched set. The pieces are from 2 different cars and look slightly
different, but are both the same style (2 rows of trim to protect the
window from the head of the screws).
I'm selling these 2 sets for 10 bucks each - postage included. I also
found out that there's quite a few of these places around, so I may be
able to get more. Just send me an email if you're interested.

I am in the midst of replacing one of my CV boots. I'll most likely wid up
replacing the lot, and repacking my CV joints at the same time (I was
going to do it in stages, but these things just seem to cascade, don't
they?)
IN any event, I've got the axle pulled, and it is currently sitting on a
nice clean-but-not-for-much-longer surface. I've looked at the link of
dmcnews.com, and it looks like it's going to be a great help. Right after
I figure out how to pop off that end cap. Does it just pry off, or is
there Super Seekrit Voodoo(tm) involved? Tips/tricks/explanations welcome.

As an aside, the copper cap on the tranny side looks as though something
got angry at it at some point in its past; it's quite dented. Is this
mechanically dangerous, or just aesthetically displeasing? Thanks much,

Darryl, Martin, et al,
I've conceded that the LGW (light green + white) wire is not the way to go--
there is only one running up the roof for both doors. Getting a wire run
back and poke down without taking the headliners down is impossible, so
hooking up to the yellow is out at the moment.
So that leaves me with using the solenoid ground as suggested. Maybe I
should have listened to you all and saved myself a couple of days of
playing/crouching/cramping.
I disconnected the black ground wire running to the solenoid and earthed it
to the other ground wire coming out of the harness.
The two fat ground wires coming down the (US)driver's side rear corner roof
bundle seem to be door solenoid ground wires. I disconnected them there and
tested my actuators to the battery. No va. No go. It flashed like it was
shorting the battery. I tested for continuity between those wires and frame,
and sure enough, those wires are still earthed even though they are
connected to my actuators and disconnected at the LH roof bundle drop down
point.
Can some one please save me some more hair-pulling? My hair is thinning too
quickly naturally.

If you buy Darryl's system, it'll come with instructions telling you how to
wire them up.
It's very easy. Darryl was kind enough to supply me with a set of
instructions even
though I haven't bought a kit (experimenting with my own systems as you all
know!). IMO
this is a better solution than using the door heater wires.

The Delorean Midwest Connection club had its best turn out for the
St. Pat's Day Parade on a cool but very sunny day. Temperature at
parade time was 38 degrees, but the crowd gave us a warm welcome.
We had 8 cars in attendance, running in a 2-1-2-1-2 configuration
throughout the parade route. The front 2 cars were lowered Deloreans
followed by D REX and others, with 2 red painted Deloreans graciously
watching our backs, with an American flag proudly on Bryan's hood.
It was an outstanding display for the crowd.
I would like to thank all the owners, drivers and co-pilots that
attended the parade, to brave the long wait and brisk lakeside winds.
Due to the "hint" of political issues, President Bush appeared to be
diverted from seeing D REX and instead had to hold up the parade by
15-20 minutes for "photo ops" in front of the reviewing stand with
the local and state representatives. Again, rumor has it that D REX
was seen by the President as his helicopter left for O'Hare airport,
since D REX is big enough to be seen from nearly a mile away.
I am also happy to report that all the vehicles made it through the
long wait and made it through the parade without incident, which is
more than I can say for the Channel 7 float that we passed on the
side of the route, barely one block into the parade route. I guess
it was a little poetic justice that 1 of 2 broadcasting TV stations
were not able to get coverage of their own float.
As a side note, if you happen to see some photos of D REX taking a
stroll down the Michigan Avenue shopping district, or near either the
Hard Rock Cafe or the Rock and Roll McDonalds, it's probably not a
clever Photoshop mocked up photo, because it really was out for a
drive on the town after the parade. It must have been a sight to see
and hear it rumbling past unsuspecting Chicago taxi cabs and buses.
And thanks to all who came out to see the club in the parade. If you
missed it, Tamir will have some video footage of the club cars in the
parade posted to his website soon, but if you want to see all the
footage, you will have to attend the club's Spring Brunch next month
on Sunday, April 14. Please contact Don Gowler if you plan on joining
us at the brunch, since he needs a final head count very soon.

I have a passenger door in my garage that was purchased from the Legend Industries "fire sale". It is a early good (500 Vin series) complete with windows and locks.
From what I understand, early doors are hard to find for people trying to keep their early cars "factory original". I don't know what the concourse book says about door styles for judging, but there may be someone out there who wants the original style anyway.

I just picked up an interesting book on eBay. I was expecting people to bid
against me, but no one did. I got it cheap! It is titled, "Cristina
Ferrare STYLE, How to have it in every part of your life". It is
predominately a chick book on how to dress, but it has some interesting
things relevant to her family. There are some nice family photos along with
some interesting photos of Zachary DeLorean as a teenager in his bedroom
with walls covered with DMC posters. There is one in particular I thought I
would ask the DML about since it is a poster that I have never seen before.
It shows the front drivers side of the car with doors open, black
background, left & right borders have columns of "DMC" logo, with centered
caption, "Presenting DeLorean". Naturally JZD's son would have been able to
get his hands on rare(?) posters like this. Does anyone know if copies are
available?
I don't think I can stand reading too much of this book lest I go limp
wristed, but just flipping through there was an interesting section,
"Gracefully getting into and out of a car". She didn't mention gull wing
doors, but it certainly made me think. The whole book pretty much as a
Martha Stewart flavor to it, but don't tell Cristina I said that. :-)

The caps just pop right off. The only thing that holds them in place
securely is when the CV Joints are bolted into place. Just take a
screw driver and a mallet and tap away at the edges until it pops
off. The rear collar (where the big end of the boot clamps to) also
come off like the front cap. Can make it a lot easier to clean out
all that old grease.
