It's that little switch on the bottom center of the mirror that flips it
from day/night mode. The mirror glass is prism-shaped so that it will
reflect from two views. When aimed properly, you get a 'bright' view and a
'dim' view depending on how you switch the lever. The problem with the
'dim' view is that it superimposes a 'bright' view of the headliner. So the
darker the headliner, the better it works for night driving. I have had
other cars with light tan headliners and hated them for this reason. A
convertible with the top down is worse yet.
I'm going to install one of those electrochromatic mirrors as advertised in
either Summit Racing or JCWhitney. The one in JCWhitney is just like the
stock one in my GM SUV. I don't like it too much because the
compass/thermometer obstructs the field of view. The Summit Racing version
has the display below the mirror, and it has an optional dome light as well.
I think this will make an interesting compliment or replacement for the OEM
dome light in the headliner. I'm thinking about re-shaping my headliner to
get rid of that bulge where the dome light fits. It obstructs the mirror.
Either the bump needs to go away or the mirror needs to be mounted lower. I
see this as one of the refinements that would have been made to the car in
subsequent years if they stayed in business.

Hello I recently bought a delorean and have discovered an annoying problem.
I noticed my courtesies lights were off one day so checked the fuse and it
was blown. I tried replacing the fuse but it would only last for a few days
and then pop again. Foolishly I put another fuse in two days ago and drove
it to work. After work I noticed that the courtesies lights were again off
so I checked the fuse. the fuse was intact this time so I was confused until
I tried to start the car. My battery was drained!!!!!
So I have concluded that I have a short to ground somewhere in the wiring
for the courtesies. THe battery had enough power to pop the fuse, but as I
kept replacing the fuse, the battery drained a bit more every time and the
final time it didnt have enough power to pop the fuse so it just sat there
and drained.
So my questions are thus: Does my conclusion sound accurate? Has this ever
happened to anyone else? Where do you think the short may be?

Hey Paul
I had the same problem this summer when i replaced my oxygen sensor. I
finally got it out by putting lots of liquid wrench on it, and then putting
an open end wrench around the sensor, then i just kept combinning more open
end wrenchs together to get more leverage. I probably had 3 or 4 feet of
open end wrenchs together, but it finally gave.

I just pulled all my fuses and tested the current across them. Sure enough
my Courtesies circuit is pulling 1.35 Amps even while the engine is off.
Disturbingly, my cigar lighter/radio fuse has a small amount (13.3 mA)
across it as well even with the lighter pulled out.

Subject: VERY IMPORTANT!!! TA Bolt bracket bolts
A friend had loose rear-end, so I STRONGLY recommend we check his TA
Bolts last night. Well, not only was the right rear bolt bent, but
one of the bolts was COMPLETELY MISSING from the TA Bolt bracket. The
bracket had been sliding up and down, just waiting for the other bolt
to break off. That's right...only one little bolt was holding the
entire thing on there (it was the bolt closest to the rear of the car
that remained).
So...When you are checking your trailing arm bolts, CHECK THE BRACKET
BOLTS TOO!!! In fact, check ALL the important suspension bolts.

I take it to an Automotive electric place. I never knew such a place

I used a torch on it and it worked for me. Torch it until it is red hot
then try to turn it. See if that works, just be careful of the fuel lines
near the exhaust manifold area. Obvious disclaimers apply when using a torch.

Subject: First Pass EFI Dyno Results
I just had 06147 on a chassis dyno to see what type of performance I
was getting with electronic multi port fuel injection. Thought you
might be interested in the results. The car was equpped with all the
stock ignition, fuel delivery system, cams, exhaust, catalytics, air
filter etc... In the process I found that my injector sizing was too
small. The injectors topped out at a 100% duty cycle (they were
running wide open) at approximately 4900 RPM which is where horse
power started to drop off. At 4900 it was making 108.4 rear wheel HP
and simply wouldn't run over 5400. Max torque was 148.5 at 2800 RPM.
With larger injectors (or if I cheat with increased fuel pressure),
I'm sure max HP would continue to climb. If it were to climb in a
linear fashion (as it does between 3400 and 4900), for another 1500
RPM that would add another 15 to 18 HP putting you in the 125 rear
wheel HP area. But in reality, the HP curve will probably gradually
flatten out as it approaches redline. Either way I suspect there is
probably another 10 HP to be had with larger injectors.
A CIS car at 100 rear wheel HP is 9.2% (100/108) behind EFI in rear
wheel HP, even with my undersized injectors. I assume you could
extrapolate EFI crank HP at about 141 vs 130 for CIS, but the EFI
numbers will be higher once I properly size the injectors and can run
to redline. These values are with the stock air filter assy and a
Fram filter element. Just for grins I made one last pass with the
same ECU program values but without the air filter assy. Rear wheel
HP rose to 109.5 at 4800 for about a 1.1 HP gain, and max torque was
148 at 2900 RPM. I'll be installing bigger injectors and heading
back to the dyno soon. I'll let you know what I end up with.
Once I get this fully sorted out, would anyone be interested in a kit
if there were no irreversible modifications required for
installation, and it cost around $1800 as a complete fully
programmed and documented bolt on.
I've never had as much fun with a car as I've had with this one.

On my car, one of the door switches for the courtesy lights had dirty
contacts. Even with the door closed all day, the switch would become
VERY hot. While this didn't drain my battery, I imagine that 2
switches doing this at the same time might just be able to blow a
fuse. To clean I just removed the switch, and sanded the contacts
with some really fine sandpaper.
While this may not nessisarily be the exact cause of your problem, it
is something that you should look into.

Paul, Heat. Get a small propane torch and heat it up. Be carefull of the
surroundings. After you get it pretty hot, tap on the pipe next to it as you
put pressure on the 02 sensor nut. Make sure the wrench fits good. You don't
want to strip the built on nut.

I can't believe no one created that poll!? It is incredibly easy to create,
so I did.
This poll is relatively easy to vote, but is different from the others
because you can make multiple selections, since it is possible that people
have had multiple breakages/problems.
I copied the basic scenarios (no probs, bending, breaking) into to groups:
low miles and high miles.
Let us consider low miles to be under 40,000 miles (or Km equivilent). If
you had a low mileage bending and a high mileage breakage then you can vote
those two. If you've had two high mileage bendings, well, you are just out
of luck because you can't vote for in each category but once.

There other polls there, too. There is one on Insurance for your DMC12, and
another for your age bracket. Please vote-- we are very curious to see the
statistics, but relax, your email/account name is hidden from the poll

Look for the simple things first. Make sure you are using the correct
size fuse. Check the wiring at the door switches, if the buzzer wires
are mixed with the courtesy light wires on the 2 left door switches
strange things can happen. Look at the front and rear courtesy lights
in the passenger compartment. If melted or bent it could be blowing
the fuse and draining the battery. The door switches are supposed to
have little rubber boots on the plungers. If missing the lights could
remain on (you wouldn't even know it especially if you keep the
interior lights off as the door lights would stay on). It is possible
but rare for one of the many diodes in the courtesy circuit to fail
causing fuses to blow and lights to stay on.

The best way to remove it is to heat the fitting it screws into with
an acetalyne torch. If you don't have one find a muffler shop to do it
for you. It will save you alot of aggravation, time, knuckles,
band-aids, and cursing. If you try to "muscle" it out you may wind up
taking the threads out with it. If you bring the new one with you they
could also install it and they shouldn't charge very much. Have them
use some anti-seize compound on the threads so it will come out easier
next time. Don't forget to reset your lambda counter and check your
valve adjustment. While you are there remove the test plugs and
reinstall with anti-seize too. Whenever you work on the exhaust system
heat is the only way to go!
