Ken spoke about having the 2KDMC Show at the R&R hall of fame.

This would be really great, but it may be too expensive...

Take a look at http://www.c-edge.com/shotimes/SHO0shohio98.html
This is a page on the taurus SHO 1998 show.

here is the relevant information:

>When the Convention was being planned it was my idea to hold the Banquet at
the Rock & Roll
>Hall of Fame + Museum.  I thought since so many of our members had grown-up
during the
>"Golden Years" of "Rock & Roll," our membership would enjoy having the
Banquet for
>SHOHIO '98 at the "Rock Hall" among all the "memorabilia!"  After all the
costs for the event
>(Rock Hall rental, $1,000,000 insurance policy, Catering, Tables & Chairs,
Bar set-ups and
>parking 2-3 blocks from site at additional cost), it just became too
expensive!
>
>All of our Convention Committee members agreed the cost for the Banquet was
too high!
>Members responding to our survey in the SHO REGISTRY and another on the
internet,
>confirmed the price was high.  GOOD NEWS!!  We are listening and doing what
is desired.
>The Banquet will be held at the Hotel costing $36.00 per person (Prime Rib
Buffet including 2
>other entree selections).  The "revised" Registration Form is enclosed.
For those already
>registered, money will be refunded.  If you have not decided on the Banquet
due to previous
>cost, now you have a better option.

I'd still like to see it at the R&R, but this does not make it look too
good!

Ken: maybe this guy can give you some good information...

Jeff,
PLEASE take Joe's advice.....Don't touch the torsion bars until you
really
understand that you can ruin your DMC, breaking the rear window will be the
least of your problems. you could twist the "T" top and then you would have
two doors that would never align and possibly never open and close again.

I have a slouchy passenger side door, and intend to wait until this
fall
to have Rob or DeLorean One make the adjustment. I have done some fairly
harry repairs on my DMC, but the Doors require the right tools and two guy
who know what they are doing.

One favor you can do for us all: If you decide to go ahead with out
tools
and help, and your break your "D", would you post in detail the events?
Please. It would be of great help to all list members to understand what
the consequences can be when such an adjustment goes wrong.

Good Luck

I love how sharp DMC owners are! I went back and still framed the
areas
you mentioned as well as reviewing the BTTF from beginning to end. We will
have to get an expert in on this one now, I agree that it does look like
Good year is painted on the tires, but in a couple of shots the tread looks
like the Pirelli tread. Now I am wondering if the Good year logo was just
painted on Pirelli black walls? Or if there was more than one set of tires?
        An interesting project!

I also agree that the scene you describe does look lowered, but I
can't
find any press shots of the BTTF from the side that show anything but the
nose up configuration. I spent a number of years working in commercial TV
ad production, and if the film industry is any thing like the ad biz' it is
unlikely that the DMC used was ever the same day after day.

I was actually aware the "D" was on a jack to get the tires to smoke
out!

Might want to disregard my last post, at least as it applies to John's
unexpected shutoff problem.
The obvious part I managed to miss was:

" When it did cut off there was still power to the
door lights and interior lights only, no radio power, no a/c function,
no gauges, ingition did nothing."

(which was most of the message!)

Helloooooo.....I completely ignored where he clearly mentioned the other
stuff not working! No way my answer would explain the other accessories
being non-functional. Joe at DeLorean Services was absolutely correct... it
has to be related to the accessory relay, either to it's primary(coil)
circuit or to the loads/associated wiring it's contacts switch, or the relay
itself.  Daahhh, as my kids would say....the exact list of devices powered
through the relay just happens to be the list of things that don't work on
John's car for those 40 minutes.

Should be fairly easy to find/fix as Joe instructed.
Glad I don't make my living doing this. Glad he, Stephen, and P.J. do....

If anyone out there just happens to have a Car Dies Unexpectedly where Most
Everything Else Works problem, please recycle my last answer.

Relax the prices they quoted you are no good and anytime you have an event
as
opposed to a gathering the rates tend to get a little better.  I have
already
booked the R&R Hall for much less than what you indicate but it will be a
bit
more than the Cincinnati Event since I was a bit low there and prices do go
up.  Don't worry I don't overpay for anything and you will get the best
value
for your dollar.  Parking will be out front not two to three blocks away.  I
don't have it nailed down yet and the Crawford Museum has made me a
fantastic
deal so if the R&R and Science Museum want our business they need to
negotiate.  The Museum in cincinnati was over $3000 when I started and I got
if for about half so never accept the first price.
Give me a chance and I'll see you at the R&R in 2000

Just a small point to carry on this thread:

The scene I mentioned where Marty gets out to put the connection pole in
place,
he has just power-slid the car round. I heard they had to put oil on the
road to
allow the driver to do this because the D, just as you say, sticks to the
road
like the proverbial brown stuff to a blanket. Maybe they put some weight in
the
trunk to take some bias off the rear wheels, and that's why it looks
lowered...?

Best wishes,

Martin

Hello,

I think the reason why there are 2 dirent kinds of tires,  is that there are
a
few diffrent cars.  A a minor detail like that can be illuded,  and the
normal

Subject: DML: unexpected shut off part 2

Hi list,

Thanks for all your suggestions!  I did figure out the shut off
problem.  One of the previous owners had installed an Ungo alarm
system.  There were exposed and bare wires everywhere under the dash.  I
suspect after having the A/C worked on some wires were moved around, and
whammo..."unexpected shut off".  The ignition relay was getting shorted
or grounded out, hence no power to the ignition, but power to the door
and interior lights.  Needless to say that is all fixed now.  The
alternator is of the motorola flavor and the battery is really strong(as
evidenced by my weekly car shows at night with the parking lights left
on as well as the doors left open for hours, never a problem....yet!)
Once again thank you all who helped!  Joe at DeLorean Services took the
bull by the horns and help me figure that and a few more things
out......I love that guy!

Subject: DML: Baffle Substitute

The Ohio trip was lovely and as usual my DeLorean made a long trip
unscathed, however, as usual, my DeLorean broke down after the long trip.
After arriving back in Chicago my car completely died.  Quite rapidly, I
discovered it was the fuel pump.  That was weird because the fuel pump was
brand new.  My mechanic replaced the fuel pump with a brand new one (it's
super quiet and has a life-time warranty!!).  I can get the part number to
this new pump if anyone is interested but he said it was designed recently
and is more reliable; I'm rather impressed with it so far and was happy it
is identical in shape and size to the original.  It was about $100 more
then a pump from the big three, but the lifetime warranty was too inticing.
I worked with the mechanic most of the time as he worked on the car, and
when he pulled the pump up, I saw the baffle assembly come up with it!
When I replaced the pump a few months ago, I replaced every component in
the fuel tank (EVERYTHING except the two metal wire clamps), so all of it
was in top top shape then, and I KNEW that the baffle wasn't supposed to
pop up like that.  I think that's what killed the pump.  I think it was
sucking air every once in awhile and that burnt the pump out.  I either
thought I didn't put the baffle in right or someone else didn't, but as I
looked closer, I realized that the baffle had just broken off the bottom of
the tank.  There is a small bolt on the tank that allows the baffle handle
and the two clips to be bolted down.  Stephen Wynne said this happens
sometimes and that I could epoxy it back on, but I decide to try something
different.

The fuel filter screen at the bottom of the pickup hose was shot too, even
though it was new.  I think it was reconditioned or something because it
looked like elmers glue was holding it together.  This part used to be
unavailable but I believe Stephen had them remanufactured recently in case
anyone's interested.  My mechanic and I studied the baffle for about 30
minutes and figured the only purpose of the baffle assembly (correct me if
I'm wrong) is to prevent the car from stalling on low tanks of gas on sharp
turns.  It keeps the fuel at the exact same level as the rest of the tank
unless a corner is taken sharply, and then the rest of the tank sloshes
around while the baffle holds the fuel together for the pickup hose
temporarily.  That entire unit seemed overkill (and expensive) for this
job, so we, or rather, HE redesigned the baffle.  I wish I could take
credit, but I just paid for the bill and helped troubleshoot some of it.

He took the top of those big red flexible funnels for filling up gas tanks
and cut off and threw away the umbilical part of it.  What's left is the
main part of the baffle.  He turned that upside down so it would fit flush
with the bottom of the tank, then he cut numerous small round holes all
around the perimeter to allow atmospheric pressure to maintain a constant
level with the rest of the fuel in the tank and two bigger holes, one of
which has the return hose going into it.  The top of the 'baffle' (it used
to be where the umbilical started) has about 20 slits cut into it to
provide a good fit around the fuel pump.  This is clamped on too.  Now the
fuel pump has a SMALL hose (I think pvc pipe or something similar) that
goes straight into a modern fuel filter (more reliable and CHEAPER).  The
hose is to make sure the fuel filter lies on the bottom of the tank to get
as much fuel as possible.  He told me not to drive my car below half a tank
of gas though because the fuel is what keeps the fuel pump cool.  Makes
sense to me.

He installed the unit before I could take pictures, but I can take it back
out again someday if anyone wants to see it.  I'm not recommending this
course of action for anyone else, but I wanted to put my two cents in on
the baffle and let everyone know that the car is driving great with the new
pump and new assembly.  I bought all of the baffle stuff and still have it,
but I thought it would be interesting to simplify the DeLorean fuel tank,
thereby making it cheaper and much more reliable.  Sorry so long-winded.

Subject: Re: DML: Re: unexpected shut off

Joe,
You may have stumped me on this one, here's what I know. The delay circuit,
like many other electrical items in the car, was of poor design. The
problem you have described is common. The circuit is rather complex
consisting of four switches ( two door switches and a switch in each
interior lamp) eight lamps (the six door marker lamps are part of this
circuit) and three diodes. Partial switch operation, such as when you crack
the door confuses the delay module and it doesn't do what it was designed
to do. If you want to take on a rather complex electronic project order
copies of DeLorean World No. 11 and No. 13. Both issues contain detailed
instructions with a schematic diagram on how to modify this circuit so it
will do what it was designed to do.

Subject: DML: Alternator Problems?

I'm having a few problems that I think are all related, but I need advice
if anyone has any.

First off, I have a brand new Ducy Alternator 80amp.  It's new, but from
what I understand, underpowered for our cars.

When I'm driving at night, quite often my lights inside and out quiver
bright to dim and back again in a sinusodial type of pattern.  Even if I
shut everything off, I get the same effect.  This is a semi-recent problem.
It was not doing this until a trip to DMC Houston where the thing I think
set it off was the installation of a new CD Player.  I think that pushed
the Alternator over its limits, but I'm not very electrically inclined, so
I might be speaking nonesense.  Stephen didn't do any other work associated
with that, so I'm leaning toward the CD player as the reason, but even when
it's off I have the same effect.  Another recent problem is that, quite
often, when I'm driving and take my foot completely off of the accelerator
to break or take a corner, my car dies.  Today it happened again, except
the 2nd time it happened today, I just got the battery light on the dash
and that sounded like it was about to die, and then the light went off and
the car seemed to get power again.

These all sound like an underpowered alternator, but I wanted to get more
advice before dishing out $$.  Any suggestions on a good alternator?

One final question.  My mechanic said he could take my 80 amp alternator
and supe it up to 120 amps.  Is there a downside to this?  It's cheaper
then buying a new alternator and it's more powerful, but I feel like I'm
missing something.

Thanks in advance!

I could not agree more, $2,416,000.00 seams like a reasonable price

It's tragic I can not take advantage of such a deal, but I have a DMC but a

It's good to see a reasonable pricing stratagem for once.

This incident happened two years ago. I was in 12th grade in high school,
and was talking with a friend about DeLoreans. Suddenly, he says, "Didn't
Inspector Gadget drive a DeLorean?"

I thought back to the cartoon (which still airs, I believe -- in reruns),
and I did remember the "Gadget Mobile", this whitish car that really had a
similar shape to a DeLorean. I don't remember gullwing doors, but the rear
window did have the slats (louvre?). The show debuted in 1983, right when
the DeLorean bit the big one. COINCIDENCE?  :)

Do you have Knut Grimsrud's parts interchange database program?  Go
to the DMCNews website at www.dmcnews.com to get a copy.

As I understand it, even the normal DeLorean parts sources have trouble
finding steering racks for you.  When I needed one last year some of
them told me they can't get steering racks at all.  I took this as a sign
that
there is no interchange match for the DeLorean steering rack.

A few years ago I heard a rumor that the DeLorean used a Ford Pinto
rack.  Last year I asked the DML if this was true and not one person
responded, so I assume the rumor is wrong.

Good luck in your quest.  If you don't find a rack, Dave Bauerle sells
remanufactured DeLorean racks for reasonable prices.  I have one and
they work great.

His number is (614) 595-3348.

I have resumed the duties of moderator and must give Knut a big thanks
for running the list during my extended vacation. As I mentioned earlier,
two weeks and 4400+ miles in the DeLorean have proven to me again that
the DeLorean is just a great car.

Thanks again, Knut! With all the beers I owe you, you should start a
brewery!

MODERATION OF THE LIST
- ----------------------

Thanks go out to our favorite Guest Moderator, Knut Grimsrud, who
quite ably handled the duties of the list from the 5th through the
23rd.

DELOREAN OWNERS DIRECTORY
- -------------------------

The new DeLorean Owners Directory is completed and contains over 430
entries. It is available for download from the the DMC-News lounge
now. If you registered, but do not yet have a login and password,
they are "in process" and you should have it in the next week or so.
In addition to the PDF version from the website, a printed version
will be distributed to  registrants that supplied a complete mailing
address. Many people picked up their copy in Ohio and many new people
registered.

If you are a DeLorean owner new to the DeLorean Mailing List and wish
to be listed in the DeLorean Owners Directory, check out:

http://www.dmcnews.com/directory.html

If you do not have web access, send me an email with the subject
"SEND FORM" and I will email you a text version.

NOTE: The DOA is going to try a member directory now, and if you are
a member, I encourage you to register for it also. Communication
amongst owners is the most valuable thing we can have.

BUY 'N SELL
- -----------

The "Buy 'n Sell" area of the DMC-News web page has proven to be more
popular than I can maintain. If anyone is interested in handling this
section of the DMC-News web page, please email me. HTML experience
helpful, but not necessary. In the meantime, it will be updated as
time permits.

BACK ISSUES
- -----------

The back issues are fairly current, and I am also looking for someone
to help out maintaining those as well. Again, email me if interested.
HTML experience helpful, but not necessary. An improved search engine
is in the works, too. I expect to introduce it this summer.

DMC-NEWS, THE 'ZINE
- -------------------

The latest 'zine already has nearly 300 downloads! I apologize for
the long delay between issues. I held off on this issue, hoping that
the DeLorean Motor Club would produce something substantial sooner
than they did. Contrary to some rumors, the 'zine WILL CONTINUE now
that the DeLorean Motor Club now actively publishing.

CINCINNATI DELOREAN SHOW
- ------------------------

We all know that the show was a smash hit and the biggest complaint
is that we have to wait until 2000 for another one. Thanks for a
great show, Ken!

WAHT MAKES THE DELOREAN MAILING LIST=A0AND DMC-NEWS GO 'ROUND?
- ------------------------------------------------------------

To clear up any misunderstanding, at this time the DeLorean Mailing
List and DMC-News web page and 'zine are run completely out of my
pocket. All time that is expended is my "spare" time. I am not
affiliated with any parts/service facility or owners club. The
expense of running the list and server space is paid for by poster,
book and license plate sales. If  you feel you benefit from the
existence of this list, the web pages or the 'zine and feel you
should to contribute to their continued existence, feel free to buy a
poster, emblem, book or license plate.

http://www.dmcnews.com/support.html

As mentioned above, volunteers to help out with the web page and HTML
are being sought. In addition to the obvious fame and glory that
would acompany your affiliation with the DML=A0and DMC-News, some
other compensation may be available.

Does that sound like a PBS pledge drive or what?

WE CONTINUE TO GROW!!!
- ----------------------

A DeLorean Mailing List milestone was reached last month when I added
our 1,000th subscriber. As a reminder, the DeLorean Mailing List
started in August of 1995 - phenomenal growth for an internet-only
group in such a narrow are of interest!

With this many people on the DeLorean Mailing List, the moderation is
both more important and more time consuming (as Knut will probably
attest). Message traffic is very high at times, but I think the
content level is very good compared to other lists out there.

PLEASE, PLEASE put a some extra thought into your postings and
responses, particularly in the areas of subject lines (keep them
accurate to the body of your message) and quoted text -  (SNIP) areas
that are not appropriate to your response.

Also, learn how to configure your email program so that it does not
add an HTML version or encoded version of your message to your text
version. Effective later this week these will be automatically
returned to the sender.

IN CLOSING...
- -------------

Sorry for the length of this message, but it had been a while since
we talked. It was a lot of fun to meet so many DML'ers in Ohio last
week, as the awards were given out, I recognized so many names from
the DML, you'd have thought it was DML event. Thanks again for all
your kind words, without you all it would not be near this much fun.

Subject: DML: Grey Door Handles For Sale

Hello fellow DMLers;
I just want to say that it was a pleasure meeting alot of you face to face
at the recent Ohio event.  Anyway, while I was at the warehouse, I was
informed by James that my car (with black interior) had grey door
handles.
Funny, I never really noticed them before, so I purchased two black ones
at
the warehouse to match my interior and now I have a pair of unused grey
handles.  They are in excellent condition.  The ones in the warehouse cost
me $165 + tax for the pair, and I am asking only $70 or best offer, for
the
pair of grey ones.  This includes shipping anywhere in the U.S.  I may
consider a trade for worthy Delorean related items as well.  Please limit
traffic on the list and email me directly at luuke@xxxxxxxxxxxx

I suggest you check the following (1) radiator cap: if the cap is not
holding pressure, you not only will lose collant from the overflow, you
will not get max cooling. The ONLY sure way to check the cap is replace
it with one of the proper spec or test it with a pressure tester; (2)
check that your water pump belt is not slipping at high speed. A worn or
loose belt will slip at "freeway" speeds. If the belt is more than 2
years old or shows signs of deterioration or wear, replace it. (3) check
your timing. Timing too far advanced will cause the car to run hotter.
At higher RPM, it may be advancing to far; (4) pressure test with
cooling system, looking for a leaking head gasket.

James,

Did you find this to be a comfortable ride??

My ride was only about 700 miles (each way) and I found that my leg and
back started to get numb after about a hour and a half..

This was my first long range experience in my delorean.  The longest I
had driven in the DMC other than this is the 90 miles to PJ Grady!

Anyone have recaro seats in the DMC?

Subject: DML: New DeLoreans

Dear DML,
I have a question. A friend of mine has a cousin who owns
a
dealership for new Miscellanous Exotic Cars. (i.e. Lamborginis, ect).. He
has
1 DeLorean there, unfortunately, it is not running.. He wanted me to post
on
the DML and find out if there are any *NEW* DeLoreans.. New meaning less
that
200 to 300 mileage,  near mint condition, ect. He is looking to buy about
3 or
4, and will pay at least 32,000 for each one, depending on condition. His
dealership is in the Dallas area, it is called Stanley Exotic Automobiles
Co.

Does anyone on the list know of any DeLoreans like the
desciption mentions? Or, can DMC of Houston manufacture DeLorean from the
parts they have?

Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated!

Subject: Re: DML: Alternate Fuels

Robert,

Here in Australia almost all the taxis run on LPG and alot of company cars
and personal cars are being converted to LPG. As far as I know (working at
Australia's largest refinery) the LPG used in cars, rucks etc is blended
with other gases and/or lubricants. So as you can imagine you can't use
BBQ
gas. I believe that the performance is almost on par with a normally
fueled
vehicle and you get the same if not better mileage. The best thing is that
it is cheaper but it smells worse than an unleaded vehicle.

The only downside would be the cost (here about A$2000 to A$3500) and that
the LPG tank takes up alot of room (normally about 1/3 of the luggage
space) the only other thing you have to do is start your vehicle with your
normal fuel and let it run for about 15 minutes then switch over the tank
to LPG. This ensures that the engine will get some lubrication because the
LPG doesn't do that job well. After the initial start up you can run all
day, stopping and starting the car with no ill effects.

Hope this helps

Matty
