Come on, guys. I posted this several months ago and nobody responded.
I've
lowered my asking price on this list to $12,000, because I need to sell it
and it's been sitting for several months (now needs a new tire) and I
can't
afford to fix it- needs an exhaust manifold gasket (a $300 job). It's an
'81, grey interior, auto trans. perfect body, good mechanicals, ok
interior
(needs driver's seat leather, center headliner, and dash pod)

the

I dont have a exact answer to your question, but I can tell you what I
know.
I usually see the large double sided signs sell for around $600. I
purchased one for a bit less, but the one I have is in pretty bad
shape. IMHO, I did not get such a good deal. I have heard of signs
sold for $600-$1000 that are in perfect condition.
My sign is sitting in my garage waiting for me to find someone who is
willing to help restore it, or get up enough courage to try and fix the
dings in the SS myself.
I think the large ones are more common than the small ones. I have only
heard of one small one in the hands of the collectors, and a few dozen
of the large ones.

Adam,
This is a British registered car. The 'Y' in the registration identifies
it as being registered in 1982 or '83 I think.
Are the other respondents sure there was a difference in tail-lights for
the British (right hand drive) and/or European (left hand drive) models?
I can't imagine they would have bothered changing this item given that
the main market by far was the good old USofA, and the numbers for the
home and European markets was extremely small. Maybe Martin in Britain
or Rob in N.Ireland can shed some light on this and the cars
whereabouts?

J.B. in my opinion you got a good deal on that sign. I too have one that

got out of Dallas several years ago. I love that sign and anyone that
sees
it in my garage gets real excited about it - you just can't put a value
on an
item like that.
It might be interesting though to find out how many double sided signs are
out there. Who on the DML has one or knows of someone that does?

Thanks to DMC Joe for pointing me in the right direction regarding my no-
idling/white smoke problem - it was indeed the CO2 adjustment. However,
when I went to see how the screw was adjusted, I found that it was GONE.
Some dufus had apparently removed the original screw completely. I am
pretty sure it is gone, since I removed the Mixture Control Unit/Air
Venturi
from the car and could not find the screw anywhere - God, I hope the
screw
did not fall down into the engine at some point - I am just imagining a
blob of
melted brass on top of one of my pistons.
Anyway, to make matters worse, the screw is not available by itself. The
parts manual only lists the entire Mixture Control Unit (#102789) as
available.
Well, I find it a bit difficult to fork over $500 for a whole new unit
when all I
need is the screw. Anybody have any ideas? I may just scour the junk yard
for a similar unit and get the screw that way.
If anyone has an extra CO2 adjustment screw laying around that they would
like to sell, please let me know.

I tend to agree. I've been on this list since it started (one of the
first
10 to sign-up) and, as far as I can remember, there have been virtually
no
ads or people pushing others to their product. Now, there have been
things
for sale here by their manufacturer, of course, but they were usually not
parts or repair related and were also sold at 0 profit. Lee's kit for
example. DMC Joe does, once in a while, tell people to simply bring
their
cars to him but that's rare. Besides, he's so helpful otherwise I think
we
can forgive that.
If I remember correctly, Lisa is a fairly new member. Give it some time
Lisa. You'll see. I don't think I would have bought a DeLorean if it
wasn't for this list.

was built in the early nineties after the BttF ride opened. Only Five
Actual
DeLoreans were used in the Trilogy and 3 original DMC time machines can be
seen at the Hollywood theme park. Steven Spielberg has the first DeLorean
time machine built ( Plutonium chamber version) in back of his Amblim
company
building parked in display. the fifth
oroginal D' from the movie is located in a car museum in Argentina. For

The D is indeed a UK RHD model, the UK plate shows that=20
it is a 'Y' reg which means it was registered between
August 1981 and August 1982.

Here is some additional information about the Dash-Mat. You can order the
dash cover in any one of many colors, they have several shades of gray.
The
reason the Dash-Mat is of a lighter materiel is due to the fact that it is
porous to allow the sound from the speakers to come through without being
muffled. BTW you can also order a mat without the glove box cut, and even
have them add an embroiled name or initials.

was DeLorean himself that stifled the project initially... He later
started
it up again when the Pantera was sold through the Ford channels... You

Don't believe anyone here who tries to convince

There are some upgrades that are the result of factory
issued recalls - one for the throttle cable, one for the
front roll bar attachment points, and one for the inertia
switch. The throttle cable recall is a kit that protects
the the throttle cable end at the throttle spool from
water ingress. This can cause the cable to bind resulting
in the loss of throttle control. The roll bar recall
strengthens the attachment points of the roll bar to the
front frame members. Without the strengthening, the frame
flexes under load which changes the front suspension
geometry, which adversly affects handling.
The inertia switch recall replaces the inertia
switch. The old switch would not deactivate the fuel
pump circuit in the event of an accident.
Other "upgrades" depend on your ability to tolerate
being stranded.
The plastic coolant reservoir bottle
fractures along the mold separation lines when run
under high temperatures. This bottle is typically
replaced with an aluminum reservoir.
The original radiator was made with plastic endcaps. Over time, the
seals on the endcaps degrade, causing leaks. Normal replacement
is a new radiator with metal endcaps.
The original alternators on DeLoreans were somewhat underpowered
for the demads of the electrical system.
And on and on.
Part of the lure of a list like the DML is the ability to tap the
collective experience of the participants. Specific recommendations
on parts sources or repair centers is again based on experience.
You can choose to take advantage of this experience or not - it is up
to you.

Any DMLers who saw my old Toyota minion at any of the Columbus warehouse
tours knows that I am due for a replacement. While researching used
mini vans, I came across this web site, which contains a product review
of the original Pontiac Trans Sport:

It says the Trans Sport started as a GM concept vehicle. Originally,
instead of a sliding "van" style side door, the plastic bodied Trans
Sport was to have a large gullwing door on the passenger side. The
writer, Chicago Tribune's Jim Mateja, wanted to find out what happened
to the gull wing door. His research netted several theories, including:
"Some executives said . . . the gull- wings were doomed
because consumers associated them with the infamous
sports car from ex-GM executive John Z. DeLorean,
better known around the GM building as 'who?' "
Maybe Mateja's story is a bit exaggerated, but it's amusing.

Yes, this is a prime example of the right-hand drive cars. You can see
that it is an RHD if you look closely. The UK number plate helps! (FYI,
"Y" is 1983). Vin 12179, one of the other RHD cars with the same
tail-light clusters (incidentally taken from a trailer! They are different
to accomodate our mandatory fog lights)) of which there are pictures on my
site, had the antenna in the windscreen.
...and it's crap. I'm guessing the owner put it in the roof because having
it on the left (in the dummy vent) as you guys would, is a bit of a
liability when you drive on the left and hedges tend to snap aerials off!
I will pass on the registration number to Dave Howarth and see if he knows
its whereabouts.

I just received a one sided dealership sign today. It came from a sign
shop
in New Orleans from a local dealer. I purchased it thru eBay on 12/31/98
for
$785. I don't know how many are out there but the number can't be too
large.
It's well worth the price as it is well lighted and will look great in my
game
room . It is 11'4" long , 3' tall and 1' deep. The face is stainless with
white lettering and the rest of the is flat black.

About not replying sooner - I've been working late for the past few days
and hadn't checked my mail. Then I came home tonight and found your
mail, along with a mail to the DML and an entry in my Guestbook.
I was going to go to bed but jaysus I'm glad I actually checked my mail
tonight or you'd have written a book about what an asshole I must be.
I've taken the pics off now.
If you check back to my site in about 2 weeks it'll be completely
redesigned anyway, because I'll be filling it with pics I took at a
DeLorean Meeting I organised here in Ireland last week. This will be on
national television here in Ireland on March 9th.
The purpose of my webpage is not to take credit for someone else's work
or pictures, but simply to make the Delorean look as good as possible,
and to provide a place where DeLorean enthuiasts could go if they needed
a specific pic of a DeLorean e.g. a certain angle or color.
As we both know, it's the worlds' coolest car, so I spend most of my
spare time promoting it; on my website, when I talk to people, and the
TV show I organised. You may have read that I also interviewed John Z.
DeLorean at his home last August.
There is plenty of material on my site that is my own - all the writing
and a lot of the pics are mine. As my website was not created for
personal gratification, I don't mind people taking my personal images or
writing off my website and putting it on theirs, as long as their
website is not giving out about the DeLorean, or the man himself - John
Z. DeLorean. In fact I have seen some sites that are little clones of my
site! The site authors have simply cut huge chunks of text from my page
and pasted it onto theirs, along with some of my pics! They never give
me credit for this. I never ask these people to take them down because
like me they are simply promoting the worlds greatest car in the best
way that they can. Only good can come of this...

They refused! I tried just DMC, DMC 1982, and my VIN #10663 all refused.
Does anyone know why?

This hose is used to turn off the hot water to the heater core when in
the air conditioner mode. The water valve is hard to see, in your case
someone probably removed the water valve because it was leaking. If it is
there, it should be behind the engine just to the right of the
distributor, just above the bellhousing.
If you have the parts manual, look on page 7/1/3, callout part number is
#2, DMC part number 100763. This also shows up on page 7/3/0, callout
item #5 is where the vacuum hose is connected to the water valve. If its
missing your A/C just won't get quite as cold as it should. Everything
else will work OK assuming that they hooked up the water hoses correctly.

It is my understanding that the car that went to Universal studios in =
Florida was a car that was recently (1990's) restored by a foreign car =
repair shop (mostly Jaguars) in my area (NJ). He told me about this job =
the first time he saw my car. (That was a few months ago). He said that =
he restored the car in his shop, and Universal paid a very high price =
for the car. So, if this true, it was then definately modified long =
after the trilogy since the car was bought only a few years ago. If you =

owner's name, and you can ask him yourself. I hope that this can help =

I have no problem with the may of us who are professionals mentioning our
companies in passing or directing members to a page of a favorite De
Lorean
pics which are on their companies Internet site.
I strongly object to the few abusers who list http' links to their
commercial sites or suggest that members go visit their Internet sits as a
part of an address. This is nothing more than commercial advertising,
which
I thought was prohibited here on the DML. I take extreme exception to this
practice when the business has nothing what ever to do with the Delorean
or
Delorean related subjects.
I think it is one thing for a Delorean company to offer help and services
threw the DML and quite another to use what is offered as an address block
to advertise totally unrelated business on the DML.

This is just a speculation, which just might save you $499?
When working out the details on the Delorean Gullwing doors for my DMC-12
kits I found that I could not fine in any local hardware stores a suitable
spring. I decided to turn to the Internet to see if I could find a
solution. In less than one hour I found a spring maker who would make
custom springs that worked exactly like the full sized torsion bars in the
De Lorean door assembly.
You might try browsing the Internet for a screw manufactures for the
screw
you need, some one must make that screw.

I think that the water valve is only closed when the AC is in the max
mode,
that is when the cabin air is recirculated.

List members, I hope that I have not offended any of the esteemed members
of the list. Myself, I am including the links in my signature line as a
service to the owners who are looking for shows to attend.
By doing this last fall, we had 9 DeLoreans come to Mobile for a car show.
We had cars from as far away as TN and Miami FL. Also owners and cars
from
the Mobile area and Northern FL. I believe that most of us owners would
have never met if I did not include an easy way for people to get the
information.
I am only "advertising the shows, which for the most part donate any
profits to charity, as a way to meet other owners and have some fun.
Steve Wynne was kind enough to come to Mobile as a draw for the show, he
even gave away merchandise and answered any and all questions presented to
him. I invited two other major parts and service providers but they were
unable to attend because of scheduling conflicts. I paid out of my own
pocket all of the expenses for the BBQ and paid for some of the goodies
that
were given away. Local businesses also donated to the goody bags.
I hope that I have not offended anyone with my efforts to promote my
hobby.
PS: I have offered to put together and maintain a web page for any and
all
car show in which list members are either hosting or planning to
participate
in.
If members will submit the information, perhaps a photo and contact
information, and I can verify the accuracy, I will add it to my site.
Maybe
I will find out about a show near me that I can attend.
