My DMC has the original Goodyear NCT's on it with 400 miles on the =
tires. Due to the lack of use and the non suspended storage they have =
flat spots. I need these for the auto shows but driving on them is =
wrought. What I am looking for are a complete set of rims and tires to =
drive on. What I need is someone to tell me if this information is =
correct? Front Rim 6x14 with a 55mm offset and 100mm on 4 bolt pattern. =
Rear Rim 8x15 with a 95mm offset and 100mm on 4 bolt pattern. If this =
information is accurate then I should be able to mount Front 6x17 with =
40mm offset 205/40 tires?? Rear 9x17 with 40mm offset and a 55mm spacer =
with 235/45 tire?? Can't wait for all your replies. O yes the DMC was a =
big hit at the show and the about 30,000 people seen it because I must =
have 300,000 finger prints on it. Got a fast way to remove finger =
prints?

Subject: DML: Fuel accumulator replacement
I replaced my fuel accumulator the other day and found that I was going =
to need a new chunk of hose because the old one was falling apart. =
During removal, I bent the tubing that the hose connects to. I now have =
a leak. Rob Grady says the correct fix is to replace the tubing from =
the fuel pump to the accumulator, which involves removing the body from =
the frame. If this winds up being the only solution, I'm going to get =
the car to him and let him do it.
Has anyone had this problem and solved it with a union or some fittings? =
If so, I'd really appreciate any part numbers you may have. I have not =
looked yet, but I figure Parker or Swagelok might have something that =
works. Thanks in advance!

Warning: long (check subjects above)
I got a new oil pressure sender and it seems to be working perfectly
(with my Volvo oil filter)...(yes, had to do the replumbing so that
I could get the big fat filter in - thank you again Chris for the
picture). It's a "Filko" part number: OP109. I got it
at Auto Club Parts for twenty bucks. No more pegged gauge. (though to
be honest I don't know why I really need this instrument!)...(but anyway,
it's nice to have working parts). Also, while I was there
I got new struts for the engine hood = Strong Arm #4451 $19.99
apiece. I hope you all have an Auto Parts Club near you, I've found
the prices to be consistently low there. (No I'm not a stockholder...
tough I'm considering it!)
Also, found replacement speakers for my original D speakers.
Getting the interior panel off the right side almost didn't happen.
One of the bolts holding the seat belt on was, like, welded into
the nut sleeve and it required an air gun along with some major
outward prying with a large screwdriver to get it free. (see, the
whole nut sleeve was spinning on its mount) But it was
definitely better than the alternative which was taking the SS
Panel off (or listening to Mono). Then we had to pry little shards
out of the bolt threads. This seemed like an odd thing to me
but it seems like every task on the car presents some WEIRD obstacle.
Not that I'm complaining! We yanked out the old speakers which
were literally rotting, and dropped some new Eclipse speakers
(same exact oval shape) in and they sound great.
In the process of doing this I discovered that my D was a home to
a mouse some time back.
Fortunately I'm a mouse lover (used to have one as a pet). I've had to
do quite a bit of vacuuming around the wires behind the seats and
yesterday
I discovered that the little creature had chewed on a few (of the
bazillion)
wires in the back. Fortunately not completely through. Last night I had a
dream that I went to get in the car and about fifty mice were inside
sitting
on the seats looking up at me. And I thought, Oh no? What do I do? This is
just a car to me -- but a home to them!
Last weekend I lowered the car in the front. I had noticed, about a week
after buying my D that the wheel wells in the front looked too high.
So Saturday my boyfriend and I (meaning of course my BF did it while
I watched) lowered the front three quarters of an inch and I think it
looks better now. Anyway, it only took us
about a half hour to do it. We took the shocks off, then got the
brake lines out of the way and covered them with sheets of steel,
then we (he) torched the second to the most bottom coil on the springs
for about fifteen seconds apiece (it was a pretty strong torch). The
car just goes plop! and it's done. Aesthetic perfection!
(I'll let you all know if my wheels fall off.)

Sorry about that (amazing- that's one of my pet peeves on the AMC-list,
another mailing list I'm on for American Motors vehicles- not listing the
location of vehicles for sale)
The car is located in Delavan, Wisconsin, about 50 mi. southwest of
Milwaukee on I-43. If you find where Hwy. 50 and I-43 intersect, that's
where Delavan is. My number at school is 414-443-8952. Because of the lr
tire and rf brake problems, the car is not currently driveable, but it
does
start and run just fine (batt. may need a charge- it's sitting on my
workbench) It's a bit loud because of the exhaust manifold gasket that
needs replacement (priced the job at $200 parts, $100 labor from DMC of
Houston) I'll try to get home and clean it up if anyone's interested.
Sorry, again, and I hope one of you will make me an offer on it.

I think I have tried every product I have ever heard of to reduce (nothing
prevents) fingerprints and then to easily remove them. Most products have
some petroleum in thme and that actually makes the fingerprints worse,
IMHO.
I am a radical supporter of Windex style glass cleaner. I personally
think
it reduces the fingerprints and makes for very easy and even touch-up.
Having said that, I have never heard of "Never Dull" and , thus, must give
it a try. Who carries it?

Hi DMLers,
I was watching my all-time favourite TV show, Miami Vice, this morning,
and
image my surprise when a DeLorean appeared! The episode was titled "Indian
Wars", and is from the 4th Season (circa 87/88).
In the show, the scene starts with a shot from behind the DeLorean,
looking
down its right side, then the door opens and a drug dealer's henchman
steps
out (with an Uzi in hand - never leave home without one). Then, Lt.
Castillo
rocks up in his Lamborghini, which is part of his 'cover' as a dealer.
Castillo ignores the henchman and walks over to the DeLorean as the other
drug dealer opens the left-side door and gets out. The dealer and Castillo
have a conversation, all the while the DeLorean can be seen in the
background.
The scene lasts for just over a minute, and the DeLorean is on-screen
almost
the entire time. From what I can tell, the car appears to be an '81 model,
w/ lines down the hood (but no gas flap).
So, check your local listings for Miami Vice - "Indian Wars". It's a good
episode, and the DeLorean's presence makes it even better :-)

Fellow DMCer's,
Pardon my asking but what is going on here? It has been my experiences on
this
list that we shared questions and answers and "other" information
relating to
the Delorean. In the last few months I have read flames and people
complaining
about links to sites. If one sees a link added at the bottom of the
posting I
would think that you choose to check it out or not. I know of no one who
is
trying to make a buck here. Only to promote the hobby. As far as
promoting a
repair or parts. I have in the past related my feelings about jobs or
parts.
This information is of use to others, if someone has done a good job on
my car
why not relate that. Same for parts, if you feel that you have be taken
care
of well, what's the problem in telling others?
The help that Scott, Lee, Joe, James, as well as others have given, is
what
makes this hobby and DML what is! Thank you James for my two cents, I feel
better now!

Oops - its been a while since I chased this one down. Scott is correct,
vaccuum is pulled only in the AC MAX (Recirc) mode, which actuates the
valve to turn off the water. At all other times hot water circulates thru
the heater core.

I have a large two-sided dealer sign that I found brand new, never out of
the box, in Shreveport, LA, years ago. As to its value, I figure I have
about $200 invested in it, but during my divorce the "ex" tried to
convince
the judge that it was worth $5,000. Luckily, the judge didn't believe
that,
and it was included in my part of the settlement. I also had one of the
very rare banners, which I was supposed to get but it "disappeared". My
insurance company paid me $500 for that. If anyone has been offered a
banner from this area, please let me know.

I asked that very same question about a year ago. The hose
should be connected to a small vaccuum chamber located on
the drivers side of the engine toward the firewall. It
isn't easy to see the place that it connects to, but there
is a short section of rubber tubing that the plastic hose
fits into. I think that this is a part of the heater
control, with the documentation that exists it is sometimes
hard to tell.

I've Looked at a '81 here in Lincoln RI., that is for sale for $5000
dollars.
The owner seems to have lost interest and wants to get rid of it. I will
tell
you what I saw upon brief inspection.
Bear in mind that what I know about Deloeans is what I have learned from
this
list. I am no expert.
The car looks complete, it is stored outside in the owner's driveway.
Body appears good, no dents, doors open and stay up.
Automatic transmission, black leather interior that has been patched with
black tape. Interior in general is well worn.
Does not start. Owner states that "It ran before I started working on
it."
Air cleaner is missing, owner says he has it. Jack is missing, owner
says he
has that too.
Owner says he is to busy to sell the car and has a friend trying to sell
it
for him.
That friend is Bob Montgomery, contact him at 401-726-3469. Bob states
that
the car could be had for $2500-$3000. Tell him Walter sent you.
I didn't buy it because it has an automatic transmission and I have to
many
projects started already.
I would check title if you get serious about this car.
I hope this car will be picked up by someone that will give it proper
treatment.

Is it just me or are DeLorean prices absolutely falling through the floor?
As a future rather than current owner, I'm not unduly upset about this,
but I have to admit to being either concerned or surprised. In the past
month or two I've seen excellent condition cars for under $15K, driveable
cars for under $10K, and now this one, good body and not far from running,
for $5K and would take less. He is selling the car for what a fender
would sell for not too long ago.
Has anyone else noticed this? Well, I'm sure someone else has noticed
this. Does anyone have a potential explanation? :}

There have been DeLoreans in this price range for a long time. When I
was first shopping for mine five years ago the first DeLorean I looked
at was about $6,000. It needed a lot more work than I was willing to
do.
I do not believe this to be a signal that DeLorean prices are falling
very quickly. Considering the drop in resale value of other 18 year old
cars, I think my DeLorean was a fantastic bargain. I challenge anyone
to buy a $15,000 Honda or Nissan today, then see what it is worth in
five years. You will wish you had bought a DeLorean instead. The
DeLorean's value *might* drop by $1K (although it might also go up),
while the Honda will definitely drop by $10K.

Well... I assure you that "Never Dull" is the best thing you'll ever use =
then. It is available in any auto parts store. It is a cottony wadding =
that comes in a black can and is used for polishing metal. Don't worry, =
it won't polish your DeLorean. It would take about 1,000 years of =
constant rubbing to polish it with Never Dull. All I'm saying is you'll =
live how your car looks with this product. Application is simple and =
only takes about 15 seconds of rubbing to remove fingerprints. If it is =
not available in your area, I guess I could give you the number of my =
local auto parts store that has it and they might be able to ship it to =
you. Or if they won't do it, well, I might be willing to send some to =
people who want it. I will ask for no profit from this of course, if =
that is the only way for it to get to DML'ers. I would rather you search =
your area thoroughly first of course. So, if/when you guys do find it, =

I think I have tried every product I have ever heard of to reduce =
(nothing
prevents) fingerprints and then to easily remove them. Most products =
have
some petroleum in thme and that actually makes the fingerprints worse,
IMHO.
I am a radical supporter of Windex style glass cleaner. I personally=20
think
it reduces the fingerprints and makes for very easy and even touch-up.
Having said that, I have never heard of "Never Dull" and , thus, must =
give
it a try. Who carries it?

Actually the prices are up. DeLorean's in A-1 condition with low mileage
are getting 22K and up, as the number of cars decrease and parts become
scarce values will rise.

We monitor DeLorean prices all over the world and we have seen the very
low
prices that have appeared on this list. These are isolated situations.
Anyone who sells an A-1 DeLorean for $5K is throwing thousands out the
window.
Recently I bought a Volvo for $8K below its value. The owner sold it
because he heard a shutter coming from the transmission area whenever the
car accelerated, he was told by his mechanic that he would be facing a
transmission replacement. The problem was actually a defective drive shaft
carrier bearing, replacement cost including labor was $80.
DeLoreans have a reputation that parts and service are unavailable,
therefore uneducated owners dump their cars for far less than their actual
value.
About a year ago we had a DeLorean in for minor service. The owner had
just
purchased the car. When he came in to pick up the car he requested an
estimate on it's value. The car had about 5500 miles and was in excellent
condition, we told him we considered the value to be $22K. He than told us
that he purchased the car for 12K, I jokingly said "you could go and sell
this
car today and make a big profit".
Guess what; several months later the same car came back with a new owner.
During a discussion I inquired as to how much the new owner paid for his
car, the answer was $22K. End of story.

Making parts is not difficult to do with the right workshop tools.
A friend of mine restores 1920's Bentleys and there are no
original parts left for those or blue prints of the originals.
You just have to get the measurements very precise. Find
a local metal fabricators to do the job. Fair enough that is the
expensive way to do it but I bet as soon as original parts run
out some enterprising company will start making more if the demand
is there.

There are many reasons why the prices are going down.
How many people do you know of that talk about a D in their everyday
life?
They think the car doesn't exist so there isn't a demand for it.
Whenever I mention the D to a person I have to mention BTTF just so they
can realize what type of car I am talking about.
The people that have heard of a D think it is an expensive car and they
aren't interested in expensive cars that they can't afford.
The people like you and me know that the cars are affordable and aren't
willing to pay high prices($20k and up)
In summary the reason why D prices aren't that high is because the demand
isn't high.
If the entire public was educated on Ds and everyonewanted to buy one
then the prices would be a lot higher. Lets keep things quiet until I am
able to purchase my dream.

A slightly different approach to DeLorean prices: I think they are
holding
very frim and actually rising a bit. Let me explain. Look carefully at
the truly pristine cars. Regardless of mileage, you are talking 18K to
24K, depending upon just how fast the owner has to sell it.
At the other end of the spectrum are the dogs. These cars haven't been
run
for years, interior is shot, prabably have a lot of wires that have been
mouse eaten, etc. We've all seen these "it was running when I parked it
there in '93" cars. Great money pits. And, yes, they might often sell
for
less than the parts are worth individually, but that's to be expected.
Try
removing the fender from that $5000 car, then crating it up to send to the
buyer, shipping and insuring it, etc., etc. Certainly over time you
should
show a profit on the parted car. In the meantime, you've got an eyesore
in
your backyard, neighbors complaining, and on it goes.
The DeLorean is a great driving car. That's what it was designed for and
that's what I do with mine. Still, by not slacking on the maintenance, it
does not depreciate in value. What more could you ask?

All this discussion about the Cheap D got me wondering. Are
automatics REALLY that bad? I have seen many Automatic D's go for much
less than I would imagine them going for. Even if someone where to take
an automatic to DMC ONE and have them completely check and rebuild it,
would it still be crap? All that I have heard about auto's is bad. Is
there no way to avoid problems if you have an auto D??
