I have used several different baby seats in the DeLorean. Rear facing, front facing and most recently, a booster for my 7 year old. Since there are no air bags you can use these seats up front. I would not even consider mounting a baby seat on the rear parcel shelf. I don't think that would be safe. My son rode to Memphis with me last summer and he used the booster seat. Not only was he secured more safely, he could also see out the windows. Buy yourself one of those heavy plastic sheets to put under the seat. It will help keep the Cheerios and raisins off of the upholstery. Been there, done that Dad.
