But that was at a time in history when child-protective seats weren't so much in vogue. To really anchor the seat securely, I agree that you would need to bolt through the fiberglass. That area is a real pain to get to underneath because there is an asbestos heat shield in the way. And then there are issues with properly sealing any penetrations to keep exhaust fumes out. I suggest finding a way to make it unlatch for convenient removal/replacement. If you can make it work, take some photos & write up a little essay on how to do it.
