I had an epiphany on Friday night, after some dinking around, and charged the battery over Saturday. Sunday afternoon it fired right up and I was able to take the car out for a 45 minute drive. The battery light was on for the whole drive. When I got home again I pulled out the voltmeter and checked voltage between the battery post on the passenger-side of the engine bay to one of the intake runners and got a consistent 12.5V. So I crawled under the thing and measured the alternator, between the surprisingly rusty terminal (which I had to scrape to even get a read off it) and the engine block - 14.0V. So it seems like the alternator is working, but the voltage isn't making it out to anywhere. While the crimping looked ok on the two ring connectors on the alternator post, it was pretty rusty, so I'm going to clean it up with some sandpaper and get some dielectric grease on it (seems to me like from its position under the car it really should have a boot over it, but apparently not) and see if that helps. Anywhere else I should be looking? Thanks again for everyone that suggested places to look. OH! Before I forget, there are two bolts on the top of the fuel distributor, I think they -may- be mounting bolts. The one under the intake banjo is apparently completely undone on my car as it just rattles about (but the banjo holds it in). Is this just a mounting bolt?
