The heated air inlet system is inactive above 59 degrees. Since most of us drive the car in warm weather it doesn't matter that you don't use it. Refer to D:07:10. It IS to help the motor warm up faster. You should have the air come in from the pontoon, it is cooler than from inside the engine bay.
