RE: [DML] Valve cover & Air Flow gaskets

I just had a call today about the lower casting that is bolted to the bottom
of the engine. Crankcase cover. It's leaking /seeping on an engine the
customer has and wanted a gasket. There isn't one and that may be the reason
it's seeping. Pn 102031. Used sealant no gasket.
Martin, google CS301 gasket material and read what it say's about it. But I
do understand what you mean about sealant. It's just hell to remove after
time on the engine.

Can I add a note of warning here - with squeezable gaskets, it's
surprisingly easy to crack the rocker cover casting if you tighten up
one bolt too tight at a time.

I have given up using gaskets of any sort, and just use a quality
silicone sealant on a well prepped surface. (just like Renault did on
the later engines anyway) This is an approach I know some people have
issues with but it has worked more reliably for me. I was reassured
the other day when I took the engine out of an Alpine GTA LeMans last
worked on by the UK Alpine specialist. He'd used just silicone on the
rocker covers too :-D
