> After all, the speedometer only goes to 85mph. A bit off topic, but apparently that was a due to a law that went into effect in September of 1982 that required all speedometers in all cars to go to only 85 MPH. I've heard the theory was that if speedometers only went to 85 MPH, no one would go over 85 MPH (in reality, you just had an excuse when you got pulled over that you really didn't know how fast you were going). It seems that in 1989 they changed it to 140 MPH, although I'd be interesting to know what finally caused them to revert back. I got this information from some Google searches, but I can't find any one really informative source to link to. -- Joe To address comments privately to the moderating team, please address: moderators@xxxxxxxxxxx For more info on the list, tech articles, cars for sale see www.dmcnews.com To search the archives or view files, log in at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dmcnews Yahoo!
