One thing I found on an astronomy site that was selling VHB is that they say you can use fishing line to "saw" through the adhesive and remove the tape, and then use goo-be-gone or similar anti-gunk remover (I've seen it at hardware stores) to get the glue off the windshield and plexi. I haven't tried this, though.
