It turns right (normal), you just need to use brute force to get it off. Helps if you turn the wheel to the left, and possibly use a cheater bar. Turning the wheel to the left minimizes the chance of bumping any tools into the fender while removing. I use a large open ended wench to remove the nut. Can't remember the size offhand though.
