This is a common symptom I believe. I have replaced the relay and played around with the circuit to stop this. I discovered that the connection on the RPM pickup at the coil has to be CLEAN. That seemed to clear up that problem. However, every so often I will notice it will not activate. If I continue to notice the prime step falling off I clean the connection and it seems fine again. The wiring connections in the D harness need constant monitoring. I've gotten to the point when I clean a connection, I check the entire thing, crimp and all, and put a light coat of silicone grease on the connection. That has gotten rid of nearly all the intermittent stuff. BTW there is a good article in the current issue of "Gullwing" on the crimp issue and electrical connections in the D.
