To position the #1 cylinder at TDC, with the aid of an assistant, bump the starter via the ignition switch or put the car in gear and push the car until the crankshaft pulley #1 cylinder notch is lined up with the #1 cylinder plate notch. Reinstall the distributor by positioning the rotor approximately 30 degrees clockwise of the #1 reference notch in the rim of the distributor. (This is a somewhat complex procedure that should be performed by individuals with some experience with automobile ignition systems.) Caution: VOLTAGES PRODUCED BY THE IGNITION SYSTEM CAN CAUSE A SEVERE ELECTRICAL SHOCK, WHICH UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS CAN BE LETHAL.
