Ken, I have been rebuilding and powder coating my front end components and have had my front suspension removed in the process. My car ,I would consider, was pampered for most of it's life being an original California low mileage car with what appeared to be no frame rust. After I removed the shocks, springs, and control arms I could actually see into the area behind them better and found that the epoxy had actually pulled away from the sheet metal and was providing no protection and actually could provide a means to trap moisture on the metal surface. I removed the epoxy and painted with POR and then a color coat. No damage done but if left unattended it could be bad and expensive. My advice to anyone who has not looked at this area of the frame is to check it out before it gets into the expensive repair that Ken has seen.
