Wire repairs are part & parcel of vintage vehicle ownership, especially in the engine compartment. Is a harsh environment for electrical systems (with planned obsolescence to begin with!). Wires that drape across an engine fare the worst -- electric choke, A/C solenoid, etc. A survey of DeLo owners would probably find MANY replaced connectors and even wire splices in the engine compartment. BTW: you don't have to replace an entire wiring harness to correct a single offending wire or connector -- simply cut off the damaged portion and replace it. Can even be done within a wrapped harness by removing some of the factory tape, making the repair, then re-wrapping with new tape (I just did such where a trim screw punctured into a wire bundle and caused a short circuit). While my DeLo was still using a K Jetronic manifold, I relocated its engine wiring harness to the passenger valve cover (passed under the air filter in the space between the its fresh air port and the intake manifold "runners"/"risers"). Required lengthening two wires within the bundle as I recall. Allowed me to drop the intake manifold straight down rather than swooping it sideways under the harness. Is now a moot point of course.
