Subject: The Resurrection of Vixen Continues...
Hi All,
I'm anxiously preparing the Vixen for the trip to Cleveland in a couple
of weeks, but I had an engine problem that was driving me nuts. You can
chalk this one up in the "Intermittent Failure" category on the Zen
scale (see http://www.ProjectVixen.com/zen.htm to know what I mean).
The Problem:
The frequency valve circuit worked intermittently. Some days it worked
just fine, others not at all. My situation was that I currently did not
have an Oxygen sensor attached, as I still need to have the nut welded
onto my exhaust pipe.
What I Tested:
- There was power from the RPM relay when the engine is running.
- There was constant power from the fuse.
- The relay was functioning correctly.
- The temp. sensor was functioning okay.
- When the full-throttle microswich is triggered, the frequence valve
-did- operate.
I was under the assumption that the Lambda ECU was shot. I jumped to
the wrong conclusion. Darryl Tinnerstet guessed the correct answer -- a
bad ground wire. It was the one from under the resistors to the engine
block. The wire -looked- just fine, but only worked when I wiggled it.
New connector, and voila! Running fine. Of course, she could probably
use a good tune up, but a running car is a good place to start.
Ever since I got my brakes hooked up, I've been able to 'drive' the car
around a bit. Pretty strange site to my neighbors, I'm sure. I've
heard the car described as 1) a dune buggy, 2) a Fiero, and 3) a
go-kart. Huh. Well, they aren't "car people" I guess.
For an untuned, stripped down little car, she sure does get up and go,
though. Of course, I haven't left my street yet, or shifted out of
first, but I can feel quite a bit of pep when those turbos get to
kickin'.
For anyone interested, I have updated my web site up through Week 30.
Check it out if you'd like.
That's about it recently. See y'all in Cleveland!

Subject: My Delorean Stopped Dead in the Water
I have been driving this car off and on for 15 years, and at last it
stopped and I'm stuck on why. I drove it all night the day before,
no real symptoms or issues, good gas, good battery. The Next day I
drove it on the freeway and stopped at a light. It sputtered and
died. Had to push it to safety, where I called the tow truck. Let
it sit and tried to start it a few times with a wait in between to no
avail. During the wait I looked at the fuel pump, the connections
(two prong connector seemed a bit rough, so I did my best at cleaning
that up. Tried again and it started. Made it about a block and it
stopped again. Fuses all OK, no sign of electrical trauma. Had it
towed and I'm contemplating replacing the fuel canister as a start.
Any thoughts anyone has would be appreciated.

Ken Koncelik's DeLorean Car Show in Cleveland will be mentioned on a
radio talk show called The Schiffer Report. I do not know much about
the the show or its distribution, so I have no idea if you can hear it
on a local radio station or not. I am posting this just in case someone
on the DML is a fan of the show and can tell us more.
I do know that the show will begin broadcasting on the web sometime in
the next two weeks. If it starts this week, everyone should be able to
hear the show on the Internet and find out what they say about us.
I will seek more information about the show and post anything I find.

Brent,
You may have a defective time-temperature switch which is causing the cold
start injector to fire causing an over-rich condition. Simply unplug the
connector to the cold start valve and see if the car starts. Let me know the
results.

I sure hope that someone on the DML list and who is going to Cleveland, are
able to videotape the "question and answer session" with John. I'd like to
see that! If the DMCNews did this, then the sale of this video would help in
financing the site...
Also, it would be great to hear whether Mr. DeLorean is planning on
attending the Euro Expo in Belfast, May 2001. I have heard that there was an
arrest order on him if he ever sat foot on British soil again, and I hope
this isn't the case any longer... Surely that arrest order must have been
dropped by now due to the long time since the collapse of the DeLorean Motor
Company and DeLorean Motor Cars Ltd.
Best wishes from Norway;

The point is perhaps the JZD episode featured in the movie, has anyone on
the DML seen the movie?
The Delorean sequence took up a small bit of screen time and was essentially
a 'scoop' that Flint had. There is a scene of Flynt showing the tape to a
reporter if memory serves, and essentially is saying that Delorean was set
up. Part of his lawsuit dealing with how he acquired the tape was also
shown. It was an interesting movie, and Woody did a good job, but it's
accuracy is somewhat suspect.

17th Annual "Exotic Car Concour". The show is a Arapahoe Community College on
south Sante Fe just a little south of Bowles, or Littleton Blvd. The show runs
from 9 am to 2 pm, and costs 2 dollars at the gate with all proceeds going to
United Cerebral Palsy.
Other clubs and cars to be involved are, Jaguar, MB, BMW, Audi, Masserati,
Ferrari, Corvette, Lotus, Volkswagen, and other one offs are a Bitter and a
Packard. We should have between 200 and 300 cars there. Food and a silent
auction with some outrageous stuff to bid on will be there also.

The altinator could be going out! I have had trouble with it in the past
with other cars it sounds like that's what it could be! You could take it off
and have it tested anywhere to see if it is bad it is usually nothing that a
about 100 bucks could fix!

for their car. I'm using Turtle wax car wash but it stil seems to leave some black

I'm afraid to try and use some household cleaners because most are abrasive
and I'm afraid of messing up the brush marks of the steel. Any suggestions?

Subject: Interesting Test
Testing my DML connection.......
To ALL:
In the event that this e-mail gets through.......I have some interesting
news!
The plans to create a die-cast all metal 1/18th scale model (not a kit) is
in the
works. A few weeks ago Steve at DMC Houston referred SunStar America Inc.,
A Chinese manufacture to me as a DMC model consultant. Today the final
meetings and initial DMC-12 X began with a
photo session and measuring of my DeLorean VIN: 005726. Next week I will be
attending
a proto-type meeting at Sun Star US offices, where technical aspects of the
metal die casting will
be addressed.
This is a real no nonsense manufacturing and world wide distribution
effort. I will try to keep
the list updated as to the progress and anything else I think ,might be of
interest.
I will see about getting a special deal for all DML members with some kind
of single source, it won't be me, but I am certain I can arrange a price
discount of some kind.
The models will be made in China, I have been invited to the manufacturing
plant and if I go I will take pictures and offer them in some format to
List members.
More later.

Subject: Crashed
Dear DML,
I need your help.
Please look at your car with the doors closed. Pay particular attention to
the Gap between the door and the front fenders.
How many of you have a more pronounced gap at the sill area?
I have been trying to research what ever happened to DeLorean cars that
were damaged while inside the cargo ships en route to the United States. Some
of these DeLoreans had intensive damage.
I have a contact that worked at the QAC's. He said a number of DeLorean's
suffered from damage. He was responsible for chassis damaged. He simply had
the chassis replaced since there was a continuous supply of chassis. He had
knowledge of destroyed cars and cars that were a total loss. He went on to
say, how the cars were thoroughly inspected, repaired, replaced damaged parts
and rebuilt to be sold. This seems evident especially in the early days.
However, I have seen photographs of DMC-12's that had severe, extensive
damage in the front areas of the cars. The bonnet area looked beyond repair.
The damaged resulted from chains that secured the cars down, breaking free
and the cars sliding into each other. The VIN numbers in the photographs
indicate that the cars were built in Sept of 1981. I.e. VIN # 3000-3999.
The purpose of my inquiry is to determine why the Body panels of cars in
this VIN # range are out of alignment. My determination is to conclude that
these cars either;
1. Had suffered from lack of door shims at the factory. This would
conclude that the factory was running out of stock, or changed the
specifications for the shims. This resulted in doors completely out of
alignment. ((Look at the area of your car with doors closed. The "Gap"
between the front fenders and the doors))
2. The more probable, cars damaged during shipment, and repaired at the
QAC's. The cars having the stainless steel panels, or VARI sections replaced
at the QAC in Long Beach or New Jersey. Resulting in body panels out of
alignment. However, the really early, and late VINs' seem to have the panels
aligned.
So did the company have damaged cars repaired/rebuilt to be sold, or did they
have them destroyed since the cars looked totaled?
Your input is very much appreciated.
