I recently purchased the bracket from Houston and was also disappointed that it was not painted.  I did buy some textured paint as well as a can of semi-gloss black paint and applied it to the bracket and I think mine came out better than the original!

On the subject of radios...

What's the best way to mount a CD changer in the little storage area behind the driver's seat (not the shelf)?  Just drill the mounting screws through the fiberglass floor (ouch)?

Thanks!

Kewl idea!

There are CD-R discs that are the size of a business card that can hold
128mb of data on them.  I wouldn't mind collaborating with some people
on this is someone was interested in putting it together!

I have the feeling this thread is on the way to blocks-ville, but I'll
throw in something I haven't heard yet... since CD-R media is so cheap
nowadays, what if someone put together an HTML presentation in a
Mac/Windows friendly format and handed THOSE out?  It could include
links to the DML, vendors, and individual sites deemed worthy (up to
someone, I suppose,) some video and photos of various meets, DMC-12
statistics, and perhaps most importantly, a good, detailed explanation
of the events leading up to the creation of the DeLorean car, JZD's
arrest, trial, and acquittal.

I realize that might be a little spendy to produce, but if a couple of
vendors could get on board to sponsor, and clubs could be in charge of
distribution, it seems like it'd be a pretty effective way of getting
the message across (as long as it didn't get pushed on people like AOL
CDs or something ;-)  Maybe an attractive (but cheap) paper jacket could

provide some important facts and a Delorean historical summary, just in
case the receiver doesn't get around to putting the disc in his/her
computer.

Just my input, I'd be happy to help in a limited capacity if anyone else

with the know-how and connections wants to get the ball rolling.

I met a guy tonight who said the following information was in many local

papers around here (NJ). He said that last week Donald Trump bought
JZD's
old estate from the current owners. He plans on dividing it into 25
seperate
25 acre estates, with the rest being used as a golf course. The main
house
is to be used as a headquarters. This sounds very much like the plans
that
were already laid out for the estate. Does anyone have any other info on

this or can someone confirm this?

I don't know what the original paint color was but I want to suggest
that you powder coat them. Powder coating them will be more durable
then paint and will not chip or crack as easily as paint would.

I will make sure when I see James at the NEC in November that he goes home with at least
one can of Black Hammerite "hammered finish" paint. It did a superb job of painting my
new bracket - and James will be able to see it for himself as my car's going on the stand
at the show. I now have a Kenwood MP3 unit mounted and everything's as tight as I could
want - I'm surprised you had problems.

Here's the paint

One option may be to buy a black one and dye it grey...Several DML members
have mentioned how easy it is to dye interior parts and how nice they look...

At one time a shippers handbook was up for auction on ebay.  I didn't get
it.  I would sure like to be able to read the contents.  Maybe someone could
scan one and post it to be downloadable or at least readable.

Thanks,  Jerry.

Subject: Air Inlet Valve vs. outside airflow restriction

In the ongoing pursuit to get better performance I've been measureing
the air inlet volume vs engine requirements at specified RPMs in an
effort to sqeeze even an infantesimal amount of extra hoursepower out
of my stock engine.

In doing so I'm asking about the Air Inlet Valve and it's air flow
characteristics. It doesn't take a math equation to see that it's
crossectional flow is not equal to the rest of the inlet hose system.
It's a restriction even in a full open state.

Has anyone addressed this part before and is there anything we can do
to increase it's flow outside of replacing it? Is there a larger
replacement somewhere? What do you do with this part on the Stage II
engines?

Part two: How is this thing calibrated? I notice there is a
functioning adjustment lock nut at the base of the sensor.

Hi,
I'd like to know the differences between the TankZilla and the new DMC Houston Fuel Sender.
I currently have TankZilla, yet I feel it is still not accurate the way I would like it. Is DMC Houston's better?
Convince me either way! ;-)

And on a related subject - when will the Zilla Door Launchers be ready?
AFAIK, they should have hit the market this summer. What is causing the delay?
I'm also looking forward to the new doorlights switch solution from Zilla!

Best wishes :)

To solve the problem of the bracket not being painted, I had my radio bracket
powdercoated in a black wrinkle that really came out great and was as close
to original looking I ever saw.

Hi Everyone,

My DeLorean anniversiery is coming up, it will be 2
years on thanksgiving day that I decided to persue the
stainless dream but more important that I discovered
the DML. Before that I always thought owning a "D" was
some insane dream of mine. but here almost 2 years
later I have my baby sitting in my little tiny garage
and I have to just go out there every so offten to
reasure myself I'm not dreaming. I dont know maybe
it's just me but the DeLorean has always symbolized
one thing to me. Style! From the minute the dorrs open
to people look at the stainless extieror there are
jaws droping everyware. BTTF did nothing for me as far
as the DeLorean. I can remember when I was small and I
saw a magizine with the DeLorean on the cover. God
help me if I knew what that magazine was today. But
none the less it did something to me inside and I've
longed to be part of the legacy. Where does this all
lead up to you might ask? Well it leads up to to
several people on this list that need to be
acnowledged. First to Rich Weissensel everyone knows
him as the owner and savior of "D Rex" but to me hes
probally the formost person I admire in the DeLorean
comunity. Rich is to me as most see JZD himself. Rich
made my dream come true when nobody else would.
Frankly Rich enabled me to live one of my life long
dreams. Rich has helped me in payments, transport,
advice and everything else. If there one person I
believe deserve a Lifetime DeLorean achivment award
that would be Rich. THen theres Fred Geerdink you
braved the mountains of PA and heavens knows what else
to bring 5386 home to me. With out Fred I might still
be sitting here pondering how I would be getting my
dream home. Fred documented my trip took pics sent me
a CD gave me advice. THen there Erik Geerdink who has
had an interest in my project from  day 1. He is
always checking up on my site asking me how Im doing
sending me really cool info. And Dave who helped me
get my engine out when I was at wits end. And Ryan for
takeing time out to send me info on the twin turbo
setup. Everyone has contributed a little bit to my
dream. When I look at the car I just dont see a
DeLorean but all the friends I've made and all the
good times I'm gonna have in the near future. The
DeLorean is a great car but the people who kepp,
preseve and maintain the dream are so much more
important. Just a public Thank you ever so much to
everyone. I might not be listed everyone here but you
have all given me an insight into the stainless dream.
I hope I can see everyone at a car show one day so I
can express myself in more detail. I just believe that
all these great people should be recognized. Your all
above and beyond the Legacy. You are the Legacy.

Subject: Filler Neck Breaking HAZARD

The filler neck at the top opening is made out of three different
pieces (poorly) tack welded together.  Recently the venturi "style"
piece with the little flapper door in it broke off of mine and fell
down into the tank.

This part breaks, obviously, from bearing the entire weight of the
gas pump nozzle and hose when fueling.  As we all know the pump
nozzle sits straight up when fueling and the filler neck has to bear
the weight.

In leu of spending $55+ dollars from the specialty shops for this
tiny part I decided to re-weld it myself with the mig.  It's NOT an
easy part to weld and requires delicate grinding when finished to
look good but it was worth it to me.

I've posted photos of the job in the FILES section of the DML yahoo
groups entitled: DeLorean - Filler Neck Components.doc

Chris, I took the heater valve off my car last year and replaced it with just
a 3" heater tube from the bottom of the air intake to the rear pontoon.
Picture on the web site. Your right there won't be much to any HP gain but
it's quicker response. Now that it's getting cooler, it will be better.
Coupled that to Casey's air box and I have added more volume to the breather.
My next step is to find a deal on K & N filters.
Experiment, with this,  while everything is hooked up like factory, go to the
back of the engine and when you race up the engine, watch the restriction
suck down the cover. Not enough air. When it won't suck down I think I will
have reached the best way.
Intrusted in what ever you do.

Subject: Re: Valve Adjustment & the Shop Manual

Thanks Dave,

I've now actually begun the adjustment. The engine is in surprising
ly great shape inside. Clean,- actually shiney- no signs of sludge or
overheating, no signs of valve stem or cam wear. (But then this car
only has 20K on it!)

As you said, I did only find two valves (on the one bank I have
completed so far) that needed adjustment - but WOW, what a
difference! The rocker noise has diminished a lot. I still have one
bank to go.

I decided to just adjust (or check) each valve at it's low spot (or
exactly opposite the peak, and only follow the manual with regard to
the clearance measurement.

As a sanity check, I took a compression reading of each cylinder
before I started, and am comparing that reading - to one taken after
I finish. - This will at least tell me that I have not "over
adjusted". (this, combined with accurately measured clearances).

So far, I'm pleased with my results.  And I'm hard to please! :-)
