Great computation - NOW, add it the values for wind
resistance, road friction, etc. (if you know them) and
decide that given a VERY loooooong straight stretch of
road, 130 mph MIGHT be acheived!

David,
You can run pure Antifreeze but you will give up cooling performance. Water
has a lower flow viscosity, better heat transfer characteristics as well
(and most important) better heat capacity. What this means is that a given
volume will transfer more total heat. The DeLorean is somewhat sensitive to
this issue because of the long plumbing runs. It takes the coolant longer
to make a lap around the system so every lap counts. Diluting the
Antifreeze to ~50/50 gives the best compromise between heat transfer
characteristics and extended temperature range/ system protection
characteristics. Best to add distilled water (Reverse Osmosis drinking
water will do in a pinch).

Walt,
If you read my post you would have read: "A set of screw drivers
(philips and flat head) and an emergency repair belt. The belt is a
straight piece of belt with an adjustable clamp on it. Perfect for if
the belt to your alternator/water pump snaps. Just wrap the belt
around the pulley, tension it up with the bracket and tighten it. No
need to loosen the alternator and moving it to get the new on on."
I said you don't need to carry the full size permanent belts....just
the emergency one which will take up less space and will be quicker
to put on for a road side emergency. You won't have to loosen all the
alternator bolts to get it on.

For the record.. DMCjoe told me of this fix, and said
if it works, then my accumulator isn't the problem if
I remember right...
he gave me a tech explanation of what is wrong if the
blue plug disconnection worked, but to be honest, I
was too excited to have it start to remember.
I have DMCJoe on my speed dial on my Cell phone
because no matter where I am, if something goes wrong
I can call him and he always is there to help... after
the many calls I make, he's always more than happy to
help, and always has invaluable answers... he saved me
from pushing my car back to work that day.
He might consider having a subscription service for 20
bux a month or something and offer 24 hour road-call

I too have a CD burner, and an MP3 player.... MP3
players are nice (the kind that read the MP3's off the
CD) because you can fit 10 hours of music on a
disk.... no more flipping CD's because a ton of songs
fit on a CD and you can listen to them all as MP3's...
If encoded at the correct rate (128K or above), from a
digital source, you cant tell an MP3 from a real CD...
Personally, even though the Craig deck is a POS in my
opinion, and the Delorean stock system sounds like
crap for such a nice car, I am keeping mine original..
so I went and purchased an Emerson MP3 portable CD
player from Walmart (79 bux at walmart - only one they
had was emerson, i dont like that brand, but hey, its
cheap and I could take it back if I didnt like it),
anyhow, I got that, and one of those deals that you
plug a wire into the headphone jack and it turns it
into a tape.. then you stick the tape in the deck, so
now I can listen to MP3's or CD's in my D with the
stock deck.... quality isnt a big thing for me in that
car, because I like the deep rumble coming from the
engine behind me, but the music helps a little.... I
also tend to not listen to music loud in the D anyhow
so I can hear if anything goes wrong, or a rock chips
the car.

After driving my D more often, last night I went to
take the black carpets out of the trunk to go get them
washed, and noticed under the rear of the car (the
engine), a few oil dripplets...
I've had the car since Feb and it has never leaked...
now there are about 3 drops or so under it... nothing
major....
Is this normal, or should I check something? Maybe
something came loose?
The good thing is the oil is as clean as can be, so
atleast it doesnt seem to be burning it.
Also, HOW do I get to the raditor in the front?
I get a few dribblets up there too, and wanted to
check the hose per the list, and I will be darned if I
can find a way to look at it... it's all sealed.

Hello all,
I've got something that needs attention. When I first start my car for the day it will
not stay running while it's trying to idle. It's fine once it warms up a little. What should I take
a look at? I thought about the cold start valve but I wasn't sure if it just helped at startup or it
was supposed to stay on until the car was warm. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance..................Jason VIN # 5903

side, looking like it's winking, or raising eyebrowse

Not real noticeable right now - but it is to me... I
noticed this REAL bad on the Delorean at Universal

anyway to stop this?
I am assuming it will have to be replaced to get one

plus I dont know if you can even buy the front fascia,
and if so, I bet it's expensive.

David, Try turning the air off and find out if it's the water temp. side of
the system or the air condition. Once you have determined if it's water or

not allowing the water to flow properly or the radiator may me clogged up a

Refer to D:04:06 in the workshop manual. The things you should check
are #31 is a good ground, fuse #1 is good and there is power at #15 on
run-start (G), fuse #7 is good and there is power to #30 (N) @ all
times. It could just be that one of the connecters at the relay block
is not making contact because it slid back. Do not leave the bypass in
(except for troubleshooting) as you are eliminating a safety control.

were planning some sort of special chat room, hasn't happened yet, hence my note at

I take the theory that at least have the most likely parts that may
fail and not take a whole toolbox. If you get stuck most places will
have some tools but they will never have any spare parts for you
except maybe a fuse! A test light is VERY important as is a service
manual. As good as anyone can be with the Delorean I don't think
ANYONE has committed the wiring diaghram to memory with all of the
wire colors! I have found that if the car gets running and then has a
problem on the road many times the problem is electrical (assuming
that the car is reasonably maintained and not abused or neglected).
One of the clubs also in the past handed out tech tips for emergency
repairs, that would be useful too.

Nick, Most of the time the RPM relay only needs the contacts cleaned. It
normally gets a bad rap but isn't the problem. Be sure to check the intertia
switch and make sure the plunger is down. Also make sure the connector and
connections are good and tight. Thats what's grounds the switch. Then after
you get the pump running, does the car start. If the pump still doesn't run,
make sure you have a good fuse and tight connections on #7. If it still
doesn't run, then the pulse coil in the distributor could be the problem,
that is what turns the RPM relay on to run the pump.

The car will run hotter because antifreeze is not as
efficient at removing heat from the engine and giving
it up at the radiator. You really should drain the
system and refill it with the proper mixture.
For maximum heat transfer, you should use straight
water with some water wetter. Water wetter reduces
the surface tension of the water, which improves
it's heat transfer characteristics. Do not add water
wetter to an antifreeze mix. It won't help and may
reduce the effectiveness of the antifreeze in cold
temperatures.

Hello, Can someone please clarify this for me?
Will running straight antifreeze through your car cause it to get
hotter?
Last week I had a coolant leak and lost nearly all of it. I didn't have
any
water so I fixed the leak and put in straight antifreeze.(almost 2 gallons
if
I remember correctly) I have left it this way because a friend said it
doesn't matter at all, mixing it just saves money. Is this right?

The bleeder screws seize up because they aren't often used as in
bleeding the brakes, and the rubber boot that keeps water out is
missing or torn. If you are concerned about breaking off the bleeder
screw or stripping the threads then remove them, clean and apply
never-seize or a little grease, and bleed the brakes. When done
replace if needed the rubber boots because when water gets in and the
brake calipers get hot they will get stuck eventually. If the threads
in the calipers do get stripped a good machine shop can repair them
and for a lot less than replacing them. I know White Post can
reesleeve them so I guess they can also repair a stripped bleeder
screw hole.
