pictures on Gold DeLoreans. The Article states there were 3 made. One
is in
Cumberland, Md. Vin#20105 (the last DeLorean ever made). One resides in

Nevada, and one in a bank lobby in Snyder, Texas. According to the
article
they were sold as a promo through American Express Credit Card for about
$89,000.

I have both the fanzilla and the brass, triple core radiator from Rob
Grady. I put them on because my car has twin turbos and I live in the
mountains. I am EXTREMELY satisfied with both. The radiator works like a
charm. I can be in boost for MINUTES on end and have no fear of
overheating. Likewise, in 90+=BA stop and go traffic, I no longer sweat
watching the needle climb up to scary heights.
The Fanzilla is most appreciated when you have the air conditioning
running
(often, I suspect, living in the desert). It phases in the fans so that
you have none of the buck and jerk as the air kicks in and out. This is
not as necessary as the radiator, but is a very nice add-on to the D.

About the window. My car is an early 81. A window was broken when I got
my
car. In repairing it, I found out that the early cars had a window
channel
which was not as good as the later cars. So I bought a new channel which
made
the repair much easier. It cost me about $30-40. The early cars had a L
shaped channel at the bottom of the window. The window was glued to the
channel. The channel is part of the window regulator which pushes the
window
up and down. The newer channels were U shaped and held the window inside
its
sides. It only needs a little glue. If you take your door apart and
need a
new channel, then get good instructions. I can tell you who gave them to
me.

Well, I just got back from the Thomasville Alabama car show tonight.
You DMC owners need to get out and show your cars. Duke Bladorn brought
his up for the show, pulled in to his spot just as the judges arrived.
We threw everything out of his car onto the lawn so he would not get
dinged for the nick knacks laying around inside.
Duke Bladorn of Chicksaw Alabama recieved a third place trophy for his
car in the Sports car class.
Scott Mueller of Mobile Alabama actually cleaned his trunk out this time
and recieved First Place in the sports car class.
Steve Rice from New Orleans (Our Diehard Fan) drove 5 hours so he could
see our DeLoreans. Steve really, really, really wants a DeLorean
someday. We awarded Steve one of our Official "Red Neck DeLorean Owners
of Alabama" tee shirts for traveling such a great distance. The
graphics on the back are a composite of the King of the Hill characters
standing on the street drinking beer and smoking looking at that four
wheel drive DeLorean that was for sale in Texas that someone posted a
picture of on the internet. I don't know who originaly took that photo,
so I am asking permission now to use it in a not for profit manner.
We all had a good time and I am looking forward to doing it again real
soon.
Get out there and go to your small local car shows, the people are great
and it is good practice for the DeLorean only shows coming up this
summer.

Believe it or not the closest match I have found is a Walmart satin
universal
black spray paint for 99 cents a can. The match is great its the Walmart
brand. It works good on louvers and the trunk. Just sand the rough
spots and
paint. It wears good too. When you paint hold the can about 2 feet away
and
just cover do not give it a real wet coat and you'll have a great match.

Subject: DML: Disaster Strikes-Almost
We all have read over and over that we should check the trailing arm
bolts,
and most of us don't. Well I am a convert as of to day, I am going threw
the spring fix it cycle. There has been a loud squeak and occasional
"BANG"
in the rear for a Year. Today I pulled the mud guard on both sides to have
a look at the swing arm bolts and bushings. The driver side looks fine the
passenger side was missing both reinforcing plate mounting bolts. all that
was holding the whole trailing arm pivot assembly was the head of the
trailing arm bolt! Why that bolt has not dislodged and the whole right
rear
wheel pulled back or off is a mystery to me. I can move the thing with my
hand, talk about luck? Glad I decided to go threw the D my self instead of
just dropping it off at the shop.
All I can say at this point is if you haven't take some time to do this
quick inspection you should, loosing the trailing arm bolt or the
retaining
plate bolts will become a disaster.
I asked if any one knew about bleeding the clutch line after changing the
line. I found the bleed point screw) and directions in the service manual,
but so far I have not found the thing on the my D. I have an idea where it
should be and have spent some time looking for it. I want to be sure I
know
where it is before actually switching the rubber line out for the braided
steel line.

sportster that will go 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds." The article called
him John "Zorro" DeLorean?!? Could this be a joke from before my time?
(pre-sum '82?) Some of you might have already read this and some may

Help, Help I need to bleed!
Hi All,
Spring repairs include replacing the old rubber clutch line with a new
braided steel one. But I have a question for any one who has done this
project.
How do you bleed the air out of the line after it is installed? I am
ready
to pull the old line out, I am thinking about pre loading the new line
with
dot4, installing it with one end low to prevent draining it, then the
other
(high end). The original line is held in with zip locks. I plan to use the
same method in securing the new braided line. I see no bleed nuts as are
found in the break system.
As long as I am asking for advise!, I pulled the old fuel sender and pump
to replace with tankzilla and new pump and pick up. I see that there has
been fuel leaking from under the rubber boot over the fuel pump, question?
with the power wires leading out from under the rubber boot, how is it
supposed to be leak proof using the hose clamp?
I am reading up on both in the manuals but any suggestions or help would
be great.
BTW: I mentioned that my hood had been bent up at the driver side corner
by a burglar a month ago, and I was hoping to repair it with out buying a
new one. I tired blocking the center of the hood and putting 25#s of lead
weight on the bent corner, in hopes that over time the weight would bend
the hood driver side corner back into shape. The weights have been in
place
for 3 weeks, when ever I am not driving the car, and it worked! The corner
is just about back in place. My guess is that in a another month the
weights will have done their job.

I know several people are keeping track of all media sighting of
DeLoreans, so here's one. I saw a DeLorean in a rap/R&B type video
last night. The song was titled "Dream" by a group called "2 brothers
on the 4th floor" (I think). The DeLorean actually played a major part
in the video. The opening shot was a close up of a small boy leaning
against the front of a car. All you can see of the car is the
headlight and the edge of the grill. I recognized it immediately. When
I pointed it out, my friend didn't believe I could recognize the car
from just the headlight, but I called it allright! They showcased the
DeLorean well in this video, including a very interesting shot from
above, with the kid lying on top of the car and closing both doors
with his arms.

basis. It has the typical magnet mount antenna. It just occured to me
that I may be out of luck with that. There are no magnetic outer
surfaces to mount it on. (magnets don't stick to SS). Short of
drilling (gasp!) has anyone worked around this particular problem or
have any suggestions?

I replaced my polymer clutch line with the stainless line two years ago
and I am very happy with the change. Shifting is noticibly easier all the
time, but mostly when the engine is hot. I recommend the stainless clutch
line to everyone who owns a DeLorean.

A lot of sports cars were made without cupholders. My wife's 1987
Porsche has zero cupholders. My father-in-law's Mercedes Roadster is
the same way. I am pretty sure that cupholders were a very recent
phenomenon in sports cars, and that their absence in the DeLorean is
perfectly typical of the early 80s.
Unlike most other cars, the DeLorean's center consol is so wide you can
practically use it as a table, as long as the car is standing still.
Most fast-food places can give you (for free) a cardboard tray with slots
to hold four cups. These things fold up pretty flat and you can stash
them out of sight (glove box, rear deck, wherever). If you haven't added
cupholders to your DeLorean it might be a good idea to carry one of
these trays in your car just in case. It's not perfect, but it's better
than
spilling.

The armrest portion of the center console in my 81 has dried out to the
point where it is unserviceable. Since I am changing the interior color
anyway and do not smoke, my upholstery guy and I are replacing the
ashtray with a cupholder. Our measurements and testing shwo that there
will be just enough room for the cup and still allow for some
enthusiastic shifting. I'll post some picture as it progresses.

Ah a fellow CBer.
My friend drives a '97 Camero. All is plastic accept the hood.
Needless to say he didn't want to drive around like a unicorn. We riged
up an antenna to "strap" onto his spoiler, which just might work for a
D's louvers. The antenna itself is called a "fire stick" you may see
them on semis or on the back bumper of some small pickups. They come in
different sizes so you don't have to drive around w/ a tower of an
antenna on your car. The fire stick is a "no ground plain" antenna so
it does not need a magnet to attach to the vehicle. We bolted the
antenna on to a small flat square piece of metal ($2 at ACE Hardware)
and made a sideways U clamp out of some other metal type tin and
attached snapping backpack clips to the braces (U's attached to the flat
metal) place between the braces and spoiler is some vinyl type padding
so as not to scratch the car. It takes less than a minute to snap on to
the car and the wire is tucked into the trunk. In a D you might have to
run it thru a fire wall wire plug. Or if using one of the top louvers,
in through the door.
You can also do this w/ your magnet mount antenna. Just make sure you
have a good piece of metal to stick it to. If you do choose to use you
CB more frequently and not want to permenantly mount you antenna, I
would get a fire stick, because when using the magnet antenna on a tiny
metal plate like I described, the conections are not as good as if it
were grounded to the car itself. You can run a wire from the metal
plate to the metal frame for better grounding but that does not improve
recepton and your ability to throw very much.

Actually this car was originally part of the "Harrahs' Automobile
Collection" in Reno. I made a pilgrimage ( heh,heh) several years ago
and took several pictures of it. Unlike the car in texas this one has
a caramel colored interior.

Minor clarification: Of the three, only two were actually sold through
American Express, the one now in Reno and the other that is (was?) in the
bank in Snyder, Texas. The third car, which was the "last" DeLorean
built, used the "spare set" of body panels that DMC was required to keep
in case one of the AMEX cars was damaged. It is my understanding that
they were either missing one door, or that one was damaged and they had
to have another door plated in gold and it does not match the rest of the
panels.

Just a tip . Many of you are getting your cars out for the
summer. For those of you that hardly ever drive your
cars and plan on attending the car show, should really
take some time and go through the car really carefully
before making the trip to Ohio. Its going to be hot, and
extreme temperatures will make any weaknesses show
up quickly. Check the fluids. Look for coolant leaks.
Folks with auto trans, should really check the
condition of the oil cooler hoses. Just simple stuff
but important stuff. Better than sitting on the side
of the interstate.

You might try VELCRO on the bottom of your magnetic mount, it would have
enough area to hold it on the car at about any speed. The velcro
adhesive will easily clean off the stainless with mineral spirits paint
thinner.

I was browsing through my local Pep Boys store today and found the
headliner material for $29.95. The color was a near perfect match.
Someone else had mentioned this before, and I wanted to let everyone
know that the stuff is still available. The material comes in a large
roll, and looks like it will be enough to cover the doors and middle
section. You have to purchase a can of spray cement as well.

The whole principle behind a mag mount is the need for proper grounding,
which would occur through the magnet. Even a 1-mil thickness sheet of
plastic between antenna and body would throw off the standing wave ratio
and "fry" your CB. Go with a "trunk lip mount" configuration. Radio is
one of my main interests and I would be glad to offer furthur assistance.

There really is a bleed screw on the slave cylinder. You
have to be somewhat of a contortionist to reach it but it is
possible! The screw is an 8 mm. you can use either a small
1/4" drive socket or a box wrench and it can be done from
the top.....I am in the process of doing essentially the
same thing to mine.

I'm looking for a couple of used parts to make wall hanging decorations
out of my old front and rear facia. Price is important, condition is
unimportant since I have no objection to bondo, glue and paint in a wall
hanging. If anyone has bent their DMC and managed to save the old parts,
they would do fine.
FRONT: lower spoiler, lower grille, upper grille, DMC logo (well, I can
dream);
REAR: tail lights, licence plate frame.

I have been a watcher for a very long time. i have lover deloreans
since i was 5 and it is now time to seriously concider buying one. if
you know of any deloreans for sale 13,000 or lower, please let me know.
I am planning on buying during the summer or so, maybe sooner if i find

BTW: i cant wait until the 1/24 scale delorean comes to my mail box!

Be careful with this, because many CB antenna's require that the base of
the antenna be "grounded". You will notice that many magnetic antenna's
have a conductive tape on the bottom. Velcro, or felt will break this
ground and effect the performance of the radio. I have seen some cases
where the signal does some strange oscillations, and causes the audio to
"chirp".
Last weekend, Kayo Ong stopped by for a visit, and he had a CB antenna
that looked more like a Celular antenna, and it was on the front
windsheild. You may want to see if you can get one of theese. I dont
know how well they work, you may want to ask Kayo.

And here's the rest of the kit! If anyone wants to try to build a good
one, I have my old one available. It leaks where the side tanks join the
brass part (that's why I replaced it) but all the plastic parts are
whole. One of the mounting studs on the bottom is snapped off. BTW - new
OEM radiators are down to about $200. $30 for this one including UPS
shipping, email me if interested.

You could remove the roof panel and epoxy a sheet metal plate to the
inside. Then you could use your magnetic antenna. If you have a luggage
rack, using one of the mounts for a CB antenna mount works great. I don't
normally use my luggage rack so I have the CB antenna fatstened to one of
the mounts. When I don't want the antenna sticking up I can just fold it
under the louvers.

I found an odd thing this weekend. After taking my car out for the
first time in a couple of weeks, I was checking around for leaks in
the coolant system. At one point I was checking the fans to see if
they were turning OK and I found that the fan blade had fallen off the
motor on the passenger side fan. Nothing seems to be broken, the fan
just presses back onto the motor and seems all right, just the 'C'
clip and pressure washer have disappeared. Looking in the parts
manuals, it shows the fan is held on using 2 screws. Why the
difference between the manual with the screws and my car (82) using
'C' clips?

i have a simlar style 2-meter (ham radio) antenna on my other car using
the window mount and have been quite impressed with it's performance. it
seems to be becoming the rage with hams that don't feel like drilling
holes in their cars. once i get my car road worthy again i'm planning on
adding the same antenna on one of the rear windows of my dmc.
on a side note i was removing the bottom cover under the fuel tank over
the weekend (tracing out coolant leaks) and found a .38 special cartridge
(a bullet) inside.... just thought it was ineresting.

I had a similar problem with my 82 - it used C clips as well, not
screws.

does my CB work without a grounded antennae? Again, mine is a glue on

First check all connections and leads to the unit before removing it.
Behind
the driver's seat under the carpet is a number of wires going to the
antenna.
One of the wires, color evades me at the moment, is an inline fuse. My
antenna quit on a road trip and the fuse holder had broken. Bought a
replacement at Radio Shack and spliced it in. Now works fine. Second
DMC had
a similar problem, but followed the wires behind the driver's seat to the
fire
wall with no problems. In the engine compartment I removed the access
door
for the carbon cannister, located on the driver's side pontoon (also
location
of antenna unit) and traced wires from fire wall to unit. All wires from
the
radio and power supply, with the exception of the actual antenna coax had
been
cut. I spliced these with butt connectors and again all works fine. Last
choice is actually removing the unit, which is located in the rear pontoon
with the carbon cannister, which is a pain to remove and a bigger pain to
get
back in place correctly. Hope this helps. BILL

I did not know either until I got the parts and service manuals and
looked
them up.
On your rear suspension, there is a big sheet metal box section arm that
is attached to the bracket that holds the rear wheels and suspension parts
at one end and is attached to the frame at the other. At the point where
this "trailing arm" attaches to the frame there is a bracket and a "Bolt"
that allows the trailing arm which pivots up and down. The trailing arm
holds the rear wheels in place front to back holdings them in place. When
you step on the gas the rear wheels push the car forward threw these arms,
and when you break these same arms keep the wheels from being pulled back
away from the frame of the D. The bolts are the main structural attachment
threw which a lot of force is transmitted.
In the D this part was inherently week in the first models off the
production line. There are currently new parts available to replace the
old
original parts. loose, bent or broken trailing arm bolts can cause an
accident, loss of steering stability, and major body and transmission
damage if they fail at speed on the road.
