Personally I don't park mine anywhere public unless I am going to be
right next to it, thats what my Grand Cherokee is for.  I am not sure
how you guys who own them as a primary car can feel safe going in
anywhere public with it.  I took it to the grocery store the other
week and sweated it out the whole time, drove my wife nuts.

Well, yes.. every time I leave it alone I sweat it, but I refuse to be
held
prisoner by the scum of the earth. I just have to find creative ways of
fighting back. (Anyone have a car alarm that sends 300,000 volts to the

Now THERE'S a thought!!! It IS the ONLY car with a bare metal skin!!!

Martin

PS Seriously, 300,000 volts might have you up on an assault charge, but
you
can happily generate a shock that will not do any physical hurt (my car
does it to me in the summer when I'm wearing trainers - NOT a DeLorean).

PPS If anyone cares, I have mentioned my (odd) car, and I believe you
don't
have them in the US, have a look at www.geocities.com/MotorCity/6876

On the subject of different hoods, with what VIN number did DMC change
from the hood with lines to the totally flat hood?

I know the early 81's had the fuel filler flap and the hood with lines.
Does all 81 DMC have the hood with lines (including the last 81 VIN
7199)?

Did DMC change to the flat hood beginning with VIN 10001?

Anyone?

I sold my delorean, but have some parts for sale:

      for full details see:

      (you can see a pic of my delorean I used to own too!)

      Pioneer KEH-7878 Cassette Car Stereo

      This Stereo makes an excellent replacement for a worn out
      Delorean Unit. No need to HACK up the delorean to install this
      stereo! Just remove the old one, and slip this one in. Perfect
      Fit! These shaft units are getting harder to find, especially
      High Power Ones! It is also an excellent temporary replacement if
      you wish to keep the original unit in pristine condition, while
      having an excellent unit in the car.

      * 25 W x 2 15W x 4 HIGH POWER
      * PLL SYNTHESIZER TUNER
      * BEST STATION MEMORY
      * AUTO-REVERSE
      * ALL DIGITAL CONTROLS
      * LOUDNESS SWITCH
      * RADIO INTERCEPT
      * AUTO-REVERSE
      * DOLBY B NR
      * MUSIC SEARCH
      * FADER CONTOL
      * 18 FM/6AM PRESETS

      Notes:
      This top of the line unit was installed in my delorean using the
      original Delorean Speakers. It was in service for about 1 year.
      The car sat in the garage most of the time. (I put about 2,000
      miles on the car in this time). The unit has probably played
      about 50 cassette tapes. It gets excellent reception (has pioneer
      super tuner III), works excellently with the built in Delorean
      Power Antenna, and has a built in high power amp built-in. It is
      a nice unit. I sold my delorean for next to nothing, and put the
      stock deck back in the car, and kept this one. It includes the
      original box, deck (LIKE NEW!), trim plate and all original
      hardware, wiring, manual -&- Warranty card!. Originally cost me
      $300.00. I will sell for $150.00

      RADIATOR - Original DMC radiator. I had to purchase a brand new
      radiator for my delorean after one of the plastic side pieces on
      this radiator broke (The radiator shop and dealorean parts places
      says these pieces are unavailable - although if you have a DMC
      radiator laying around to take these pieces off...). This is a
      good radiator if you repair it. It needs one plastic sides that
      attach to the main core of the radiator. Most any radiator shop
      can put on the plastic pieces to the sides. If my memory serves
      me correctly, only one side has a leak. $20.00 (I think the new
      radiator cost me like $300)

      REAR BUMPER - This is the actual rear 5mph impact bumper. It is
      connected directly to the frame if my memory serves me correctly
      it is below the REAR BUMPER COVER so it is only seen when this
      cover is removed.. It is a piece of aluminum surrounded by some
      "foam" looking stuff. This one is in ok condition, although on
      one side of the aluminum around the corner, there is a chunk of
      the foam stuff missing. (Will try to get a picture online) I dont
      know how much these cost, but will sell this one for $30.00

      please email jhk@xxxxxxxxx if interested.

I consider my DeLorean to be a daily driver (during non-winter months)
and I have never worried about its safety.  I park it at work every day,
and at school every night.  Both are in downtown Cleveland.  Without a
second thought I take my DeLorean to supermarkets, bars, restaurants,
malls, and discount stores.

In four years I have seen no sign of vandalism.  At the same time, I have
had so much fun showing it off that I feel my DeLorean has paid for itself
already.

Every day I see Jaguars, Corvettes and Porsches parked at the
supermarket, so why not my DeLorean?  I believe it is important to give
the car lots of exposure to the public.  The more attention the car gets
and the more curious questions I answer the better.

I do admit that I always go out of my way to find a high-visibility
parking
space for my DeLorean, but that has more to do with gratifying my ego
than placating my paranoia.

The one reason why the DeLorean wouldn't make it in today's market:
Cup holders.

I made a stop a few days ago at one of those drive-up coffee stands.
Outside of having to open the door and unhooking my seat belt so I
could reach way up to the window, I really had no safe place to put
the cup. What have people done to hold onto their cups? I envision a
replacement for the padded section of the center console with 2
indentations deep enough to properly hold on to those 48oz drinks.  Or
is there some add-on item that people have found to work well on a
DeLorean?

At an auto store called Benny's in Dennisport, MA, I found these nifty
little plastic adhesive-backed "hide-away" cup holders. Looks like a flat
rectangle of plastic (about  3x1x1/8 inches) until it FOLDS OUT (very
clever!) into a little frame to hold the cup. I stuck two on the opposite
side of the center console (I rarely carry passengers) and they have
served well.

Subject: DML: Delorean Spring fixing

Hello all,

It is the time of year again when I set up the garage to make my fixes
for the
year. I was looking to do it right this year so I need help with the
following:

1) What is the best way to clean the relays and connectors?
2) I live in the desert. Is there any benefit in Rob's upgraded radiator
and
cooling fan module? What difference does the upgraded weatherstripping
make?
3) My washer fluid cap is missing and they aren't available. What fits?
4) Is there an upgrade for trailing arm bolts?
5) How much of a difference is there in a stainless clutch cable? Guess
which
one I have?
6) What high temp. arosol paint will match the gray wheels? What matches
the
trim?
7) How can I best go about getting the "Chrome" look I have seen now and
then?
I have a lot of time on my hands and was wondering if sandpaper would work
(2000 grit).
8) My passenger window falls in when it goes down. Where has it fallen
off the
track for the majority of you?
9) the low down on lowering from those that have had it for years is?

Oh, and in response to the bits about vandalism. My friend has a ferrari
and
he gets the infamous "thumbs up" from other motorists. My friend with a
black
911 has had more people spit on his car, rip the antenna out, key it, etc.
than should be good for his esteem. Deloreans aren't associated with the
arrogant and "I'm better than you" attitude found in the world of cars.
Instead, it, and other rarities are respected and viewed with some
enthusiasm.
Thus, they are less prone to vandalism. Anyhow, my Ford was stolen (Thank
you
someone) and I put in a Code Alarm for the Delorean. Code Alarm supplies
to
GM, Honda, Toyota, etc. so the reliabilty sold me. I live in a high crime
area
and have had no problems leaving her outside with my Alpine CD player
inside.
The flashing LED and audible chirp help. Also, to complicate theft, I had
the
windows tinted to make looking for the lock and goods inside harder.

When the windows were tinted, the guy did a horrible job (Topline in Santa
Ana). So look closely at someone's car and ask around if you like the
work. It
is illegal in TN and CA where I live but the cops are nice. And on to the
cops... The DMC is a visible car without doubt. BEL-Tronics sells a radar
detector that can mount under the binnacle so thieves and police can't
see it.
The antenna mounts in the jack storage area with the wire running under
the
carpet up front, and to the ignition for power whenever you start up. I
have
one, and on a trip to FLorida, it paid for itself ($200-$300 online).

Happy Motoring

One of the two original American Express Gold Plated DeLoreans is in the
National Automobile Mususem in Reno, Nevada. I saw it there over
Christmas 1996. As far as I have been able to determine, it has always
been in the possession of the NAC, though it may have been on display at
the Imperial Palace.

At one time, the Imperial Palace did have a "regular" stainless DeLorean
on display. I do not remember seeing it on display at the time of the DOA
expo there in 1995 nor at the time I was there over Christmas of 1996 (my
big Vegas/Reno/Tahoe trip), but it was there in the summer of 1989.
