Subject: DML: THE WEDDING SINGER
I saw THE WEDDING SINGER over the weekend, I would definitely recommend
it. I was somewhat disappointed that the D was only shown for about as
long as it was in the promos and commercials, but it was still a Delorean
in a movie, which I don't believe has happened since BACK TO THE FUTURE
III in 1990. I was nearly as excited to see this occurance as the movie
itself. In fact, I was a bit too excited, as I made it apparent during
the movie that "that's my car," and was therefore confronted by some of
the surrounding patrons after the viewing. I did my best to answer their
questions about the D, but I know I still have more to learn.
As for the film itself, I thought there was not as much slapstick humor
as Adam Sandler's previous films, and more of a storyline. I am sorry if
this is disrespectful, but really, you guys are all showing your age :)
Go out and enjoy a pleasant, realistic (as opposed to a hockey
player winning a golf championship), romantic comedy. If you don't enjoy
the movie, it is at least worth the $4.50 to see the Delorean and drop
hints as I did :) "See you in the future!"

P.S. The Presidents of the USA song was a remake of The Buggles 1979
semi-hit "Video Killed The Radio Star." The placement of the song was
supposed to make people feel nostalgic for the 80's, even though the song
was released half a decade before the movie took place. However, "VKTRS"
is somewhat symbolic of the 80's, if you remember, for it was the first
video ever played on MTV, predicting the domination that music was to
develop in every corner of life.

On the 22nd September 1981 a Parts Bulletin was issued by the DeLorean
Motor
Company that stated;
As of V.I.N. 3200, the front hood has been changed and the gas filler
flap has
been eliminated.
(This also meant a new nonlocking gas cap from V.I.N. 3200)
Production vehicles began around V.I.N. 500 so you are one of 2,700
driving
around in a flap! :-)

I am sorry to report that VIN#2573 has been afflicted with the terrible
"pft-pft-pft-pft" syndrome. She will go under the wrench shortly.
However.......
can someone tell me how to access the bolts on the exhaust manifold to
change the gaskets. The repair manual says to just remove the exhaust,
thats fine but my magic wand is in the shop. Looking under the car I
can't even see the bolts or studs. Do I have to remove the engine for
this job??? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I recently removed my louvers because I was doing a lot of engine work.
I was lazy, so I've been driving around recently without them. Looking
at the car this way, I have to admit, it looks better to me. Don't get
me wrong, I am the all-original type and will certaintly put them back
on. But I often wonder why Delorean added the louvers. Do they have
any function besides intefering with my rear visibility? Just wondering
what my fellow DMC enthusiasts thought about it. David

The Crawford Auto Museum here in Cleveland
has an excellent stainless car display. It
features one of the stainless 1936 Fords and
a stainless Lincoln as shown in DeLorean
World. These cars are side-by-side with the
first production DeLorean, VIN #500.
Anyone who is passing through Cleveland drop
me a line and I will make sure you can find
the museum and this wonderful stainless car
display.

Hello All:
I just got a call informing me that The PVA V 6 engine in 1/24th scale
is just not available.....Rats! I have no choice but to remove the engine
from the limited edition until I can scratch build one.
However there is a solution, but I need some help.
I need photos or illustrations of the engine and transmission. Any one
with an engine out of the D' could be of great help here. There are no
special requirements about the photos, just be well lit and in focus. I
need all six views. Color is preferred. The photo should be at right
angles to each axis however.

comment:
I noted that all three versions of BTTF have the flap hood version in
their kits. Last night BTTF #1 just happened to be on TV, and it appears
that there is no flap on the DMC used in the film.???
Just an observation, nothing to be in a flap about...WINK<<

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this before, but in The People Versus
Larry Flynt, the John DeLorean FBI tapes play an important part in the
film.
Although you won't find any DeLorean automobiles in it, it's worth seeing
the film just to see the DeLorean drug bust tape.
The story with the DeLorean tape in the movie is, Larry Flynt tries to
sell
it to a TV network or something, then is taken to court for potentially
compromising an FBI investigation.

I saw "The Wedding Singer" over the weekend.
The DeLorean looks very good!
It's no Oscar magnet, but "Wedding Singer"
is funny enough that you can sit through it.
The DeLorean only makes one appearance for a
few seconds, but it looks very attractive
during those seconds.
Some DeLorean enthusiasts may feel insulted,
because in this movie the *bad* guy drives
the DeLorean. Oh well. This bad guy
happens to be a successful young American
businessman . . . exactly the type of person
John DeLorean hoped to have as a customer.
I think the DeLorean was the perfect car for
this character in this movie.

The rear louvres were added not to interfere with the rear vision. Their
main purpose was to increase the fuel economy and to fill the space
behind the rear window. You can probably notice that when they are
removed the wind noise is a little higher idicating that the air drag has
increased. I recomend that you put the louvres back on to keep the
original look of the car and to conserve fuel.

Subject: DML: Gas flap in BTTF and Stainless Steel Illusion
I don't think any of the cars used in any of
the BTTF movies had a gas flap. However, I
have seen some BTTF toys with the flap.
Some toys even have TWO gas flaps, one on
each side of the luggage compartment lid.
Obviously the gas flap toys were based on
drawings, photographs, or a close look at an
earlier DeLorean. The two flap toys I
attribute to overachieving toymakers.
The book Stainless Steel Illusion got it
backwards. SSI erroneously says that the
flap was a design improvement which was only
incorporated on later cars. Maybe the toy
designers used SSI as their source of
DeLorean knowledge?

The Louvers do have a purpose in the car. Although it might not be
apparent in the winter, the louvers help pull air out of the engine
compartment. As many people have commented on in the past: Driving with
the louvers off in the summer can cause the car to overheat much more
quickly than usual.

I wondered about this myself after I removed my louvres last summer. I
have an attachment that bolts to the existing louvre hinges that mimics
the appearance of the BTTF car. (see the 'zine for more details on how I
use this to rent out my car - ftp://dmcnews.com/zine001.pdf)
After I took off the BTTF attachment, I drove around for a week or two
without the louvres. I noticed a lot more engine noise, and a tendency
for the car to run noticeably hotter than normal. Personally, I did not
care for the way it looked WITHOUT them on. After re-installing them, my
temperature returned to normal, and the car got much quieter inside, too.

All years, all interior colors and transmissions. Located from Idaho to

Incidentally, the latest issue of Hemmings Motor News list about 25 for
sale, also. Even accounting for some duplication, that's still a lot of
DeLoreans for sale.

The front and rear facias on my baby VIN 2573 have already been
repainted by the previous owners and is chipping and peeling. I am
afraid if I start sanding to remove the old paint I will damage the
facia. If I take them to a paint shop can they use paint stripper
chemicals on them safely? Also, in looking through old DeLorean World
magazines there are three colors listed for the facias, silver, black
and gray. Mine are painted black on the bumper and bottom and gray on
top, whats silver? I will also be talking to the paint shop people for
their input but wanted to see if any other DeLorean owners have
repainted their facias and what problems to watch out for.

PJ Grady has this adjustable clutch link which replaces the non adjustable
clutch link on your clutch pedal. All it does is allows you to make the
link longer or shorter (in your case longer) so the pedal actually
raises a
bit.... so when you press on it you will disengage the clutch earlier and
you will hit your friction point earlier or farther from the floor....

In a brand new videogame for the Sony Playstation called Resident Evil 2,
there is a Delorean parked out on the street in one of the scenes. The
artist
did a very good job, it is unmistakably a Delorean.

Check the brake fluid level in your clutch master cylinder. The
reservoir is located under the rubber plug next to your gas cap. You
may just be low on fluid.

I've painted my rear facia about a month ago. The silver from PPG is the
color but there were two silvers although close.
The main thing is if you use a sandpaper below 480 grit and go down to the
plastic it leaves sanding lines that although insignificant are there I
wet
sanded with 800 when I got near or hit the facia I used 1500 it didn't
take
too long and mine came out great. There is a trick in spraying the paint
a
bit dry to avoid the high gloss look. the facias are not that high in
gloss
but the paint is so you need to put the top coat on a bit dry. Also the
thinner the coats the better. the flakes seperate out easily while the
paint
is curing.

Is there a list of "hard to find Parts" around anywhere?
It would be a cool thing to have, because I sometimes find in
conversations someone either has, or knows someone who has some DMC
parts laying around.
For instance, I spoke to a guy today who has some wheels, brake pads,
clutches, and a rear louver. I dont think any of that is rare, but I
would have liked to ask specificaly if he had XXXX.. No, he did not
have any left fenders, or any SS body parts!
