Why isn't the DMC logo on the front?  Has anyone ever figured out why

I went to the expo today, and was disappointed to see that the DeLorean on
display was not the original one used in the movie.  It was a 1983 D, in
great shape, owned by a local businessman.  I talked with him briefly,
especially when he saw me writting down the VIN, and does have internet
access and will check out www.dmcnews.com
The VIN, for those of you who are keeping track is #6447, black interior,
5-speed.

I don't think so.   When the company issued the parts bulletin regarding
elimination of the gas filler flap, they also stated that the relevant
replacement hood had also been superseded and the old hood was no longer
available.
Your hood has been replaced at some stage and been replaced by the modern
version.  I've seen similar things happen to other cars.

You say that it was an '83 and the vin # is 6447 ? That is not possible.
That vin # would be an '81. In 1983 vin numbers were much higher.

Hello all!

I just saw this letter to the editor in the Feb. 1998 issue of Automobile
Magazine and I thought you might be interested.

JOHN Z. THANKS YOU

Normally (hell, almost always), I am highly appreciative of your
willingness
to call a spade a spade and admit when a car is becoming fat and lazy in
its
old age. So I figured you guys just might not be paying attention when
reviewing th new Porsche 911 ["1999 Porsche 911 Carrera," November 1997].
I
assume you accidently didn't notice the disappearance of any fender
flares. Or
the interior that has looke good in so many Hondas. Or the fact that it is
HUGE. HUGE dammit! I think I'd save myself $45,000 and buy a DeLorean. At
least it's still distinctive.

Its not a big article but it is nice that our cars are still thought of
and
compared to the cars of today. May the DeLorean live on forever.

All DeLoreans originally came with leather seats, cloth was never an
option.  The rest of the interior was a combination of leather and vinyl.
These cloth seats are a customization by a previous owner.  Sometimes I
wish I had cloth seats, since they require less maintenance than leather.

After a gut-wrenching two weeks of waiting, #6776 now shares my garage
along with #10570. I picked up #6776 here locally, it's a NOV 81 build,
with a grey interior and five speed. The previous owner, a local member
of the AzDC, passed away last summer and his widow recently decided to
sell both his DeLoreans. The 83 is still available and advertised on the
web page:

http://www.dmcnews.com/buynsell.html

#6776 aka "DLUSION", will be the DMC-News guinea pig, and many of the
articles you will see in the coming issues of the 'zine will feature this
car.

For some idea of what it looks like now, and as I go along through the
restoration/customization process, I will be posting some photos later
tonight (2/23) at:

I have a few ideas about what I will do to this car, and since my other
DeLorean is already a pretty good example of an original car, this one
may very well end up "different". Stay tuned.

I recently acquired an original ASI Service Manual for the stock
DeLorean radios used in most 82 and 83 DeLoreans. It's about 25 pages
with
fold-out schematics and parts lists. I do not believe that ASI is still
around, and I do not believe that the ASI radio is available any longer
from the parts/service facilities (though most, if not all, offer service
for both this and the Craig radio).

If you wanted to have your ASI radio reparired locally, but no place will
touch it without a manual, this is for you.

In any case, if anyone would like a copy of this, I will be glad to copy
it for anyone for the cost of the copies and postage. Email me for

Also, now that I have purchased an 81 that has a Craig radio, I would be
interested in acquiring a similar item for the Craig radios - does anyone
have one available?

Scott,
You've explained it all with your last sentence. Alabama has a reputation
of stealing DeLorean parts. Seriously, when you replace your sway bar
bushings use the original ones. If you look at the original ones you'll
notice that the sway bar fits into the bushing off center with the bar
forword of center in the bushing mount bracket. The sway bar holds the
caster adjustment by locating the lower control arm ( called the lower
link
in the parts manual). I've tried poly bushings from a Corvette which
locate
the bar in the center of the bushing but this also changes the caster
adjustment of the lower control arm. I thought the stiffer poly bushing
would make the front suspension a bit more responsive but the change in
caster adjustment, although slight,  made a significant change in the
handling of the car. My advice: stick with the original bushing.

bottom. Or is it gray top, black bumper, gray stripe, and black bottom?

I am in the process of replacing all of the coolant hoses. I started in
the front and am using Dayco 77125GL Gold Label Hose on the 1-1/4"ID
straight hose pieces @$0.80/inch and used the Dayco 816 pieces on the
automatic Transmission Oil cooler. Also replaced the oil cooler hoses at
a local hydraulic hose shop, they reuse the old fittings and add new
hose and clamps for $12.50 per hose. Just got the intake manifold off
the engine and found the rubber hose nightmare underneath. Here I am
calling PJ Grady for a new water pump and replacment hoses.

I just broke off a bolt trying to remove the heater hose pipe. Rats...
Guess I'll be doing some drilling. Keep you posted.
