John, the wider side trim stripes, with the letters DMC cut into the
plastic,
were a dealer installed option.  I believe they were available on any
DeLorean at the buyer's request.  The stripes do not help you determine
the build date of the car.

Subject: DML: DMC plays the Grand Ole Opry

Fellow DMCer's,
Yes it is true! A DMC has played the Grand Ole Opry on 01/06/98. I was
approached about a month ago from a leasing agency. They provide cars for
various music videos, ( Alan Jackson's Ford truck " If I had money" ad,
Hank
William Jrs. Monday Night Football "Are you ready for some football " ad,
etc... They wanted to lease my DMC for two days. They would come and get
my
car and return it afterwards. A large company out of New York had rented
the
Grand Ole Opry and was doing a Back to the Future theme. They had
Christopher
Lloyd do a video ( on large screen) saying "someone has stolen my time
machine." My DMC (vin# 6569) was driven out on the stage of the Grand Ole
Opry
with the president of the company getting out of the pass. side. I was
paid
for the two day rental and was able to get not only photos of the DMC on
stage
but also got photos of Lou Gossett Jr. ( Officer and a Gentleman, Iron
Eagle,
etc...) Beside and sitting in my car. I talked to the stage manager of the
Opry and he said as far as he knew there had never been an auto on stage
before. A first for any car and it was an DMC!!! As James has written in
the
Zine, you can make money from our rides. Thanks to James for sending me
the
information on renting his ride , it was very helpfull. I can now say I
drive
a car that has played the Grand Ole Opry! I will try and scan the photos
to my
web page the next couple of days, will let you know when I get it done.

I hate to do it, but I need the money!

1981 DeLorean: 43,000 original miles, perfect unpainted body, very good
mechanically, needs just a little to be show quality (driver's seat
leather,
middle headliner, that's about it) I'm hoping for $17,000.  Anybody know
of
any interested parties?  I have digital pictures.  The car is in
Southeastern Wisconsin.

Subject: DML: Un-Storage Questions

I know a man who has kept his De Lorean sitting in his basement for some
time.  It has probably sat there for around four years without being
driven.  The car now has about an inch of dust on it.  This person will
be
moving soon and the De Lorean will have to be moved from the old basement
to the new basement.  I want to see him make this car driveable again, as
it is in GREAT shape.  I don't know if he added a fuel stabilizer and I
don't know why he parked the car to sit there in the first place.  What
does it take to bring a car of this sort out of storage?  What kind of
cost
is he looking at?

Thanks for your help,
Travis Graham

Subject: DML: Barrett Jackson Auction / headliners

I recently found out about what is billed as " THE WORLD'S GREATEST
CLASSIC CAR AUCTION AND EXPOSITION".  This is the Barrett-Jackson sale in
Scottsdale Arizona next week.  This is the 15th thru the 18th.  They will
have two Delorean's for sale, one is billed as a experimental factory
prototype, the work of Colin Chapman of Lotus, and John D.  Does anyone
know anything about this car?  In the photo, which is quite small, I
can't detect any differences between this and the production model.  I am
looking forward to it as they have some exotic cars that will be sold.  I
will let you know what they go for!
Does anyone have any information on the headliners, I check the archives,
and other than a posting about a SABB 900, and to be careful with the
christmas tree clips, I was not satisfied with the posting.  Anyone have
any extra clips that they don't need that they would like to sell!  My
email address is emoreau@xxxxxxxx

I believe #138 or #137 covers removal and reinstallation very well, also.

The fir trees are common and should be available at any upholstery shop.
Take an old one to compare.

Subject: DML: MY turn to vent !

Ever since I have been on this list,  I have been seeing an occasional
comment about Delorean One and ED.  I never  made any reply to these
subjects because I had never called Delorean One or did any business with
them.   Well,  today  I thought I would give them a call and establish a
customer
account and have a talk about my restoration project.  I have never been
one
to judge people or form an opinion based on what other people say. So, I
figured
I would start new and give him a chance.    At first he was friendly
and introduced himself.   I had my COMPLETE VIN in hand ready to go if
he decided to ask.   Then,  he said " Are you on the Internet ? ",   I
said
"yes" and then he simply said.   " Just continue doing business with the
other guys,  they are nice guys and We are not interested in your project"
"Goodbye" !    I am still in shock.  I never expected anyone to be that
way.
I could have understood him if I had said something negative about him
in the past but I have never even mentioned his name before. ????
Its a good thing we have the friendly voices of Steve , Warren, and Rob
to answer the phone when we are in need of help.    Ok,  I feel better
now !

Subject: DML: Revive the dead

I recently purchased car number 1786.  I got it at
an outrageous low price but it needs lots of work
and parts.  Mice had taken up residence in the car
for a few years so you can imagine what the interior
looks like.   So,  I need lots of parts.   If anyone has
extra parts you  want to sell,  let me know.   I don't
need any stainless, glass, or exterior plastic.  But,
everything else is fair game.  Engine,  interior, suspension,
fuel, AC, etc.....   Its a black interior.
So, just send PRIVATE email to me and put  PARTS as the
subject.   Send the part # if you can.      If I get lots of
stuff,  I may compile the list in a searchable database on
the Web if you guys would like that.   Something like a
trading post.    I did the same with the Bricklin SV-1 car
and it was very much a success with the Bricklin list.
Send your price also,  and none of that "make offer"
stuff.   Thanks

Subject: DML: Re: Re: ethanol, speed, turbos

Regarding Bruce Benson's comments on ethanol; he's dead on! Look at the
tiny signs on every fuel pump, it will say it contains up to 10%
ethanol...even during the summer. If you don't know what pump to trust
(and don't ask anyone at the gas station, it will only elicit confused
expressions) try the Amoco gold or premium. It is the only gas I've found
(so far) that does not have any alcohol derivative. It costs more, but
gives 93 octane, burns better and I feel I obtain better overall
performance. The D is not driven in the winter, but my other cars get
treated to this fuel because alcohol WILL deteriorate most rubber
compounds after prolonged exposure.
Another question was asked about the speed of the D. It too depends upon
the fuel. I've mixed 113 octane fuel with my Sunoco 94 (this may too not
have any ethanol, I can't get it in Illinois)
and went searching for Porsches. I do not have a catalytic converter but
I do have twin turbos. Rad Dad I believe has a single? He will be
somewhat affected by his altitude. Claims are for 0-60 in 6.2 seconds. On
a cold day, it will be even faster. My next project will have to be
intercoolers!!!
Has anyone tried K&N air filters yet??
