Reference battery for lighted keys, I have both the long and short lighted
keys.  Initially I bought a VARTA V625U from a Porsche dealer for over
$5.00
or you can go to Wal-mart or Radio Shack and buy the Duracell PX625B (same
battery) for less than half the VARTA cost.  Works great in both keys.

I have a copy of the book "Motor Makers In Ireland" that does not have a
dust jacket, but is a special edition distributed at the Ulster Motor

$40-$50, but without the just jacket, I think $20 will do - anyone
interested. Email me.

I have a Delorean that has blown a head gasket and may need new heads and
exhaust manifolds. Can you direct me to the area that could answer the
question as to whether the exhaust manifolds are stock that comes with the
Volvo engine or have been modifed for the Delorean. Thanks for your help.
Also I would like to update the Delorean so I could use it on a regualar
basis What steps should I take. Thanks for your time.

Hi all,
Well, I finally sold the car. It wasn't easy but I had to let it
go. I have the following things that I'd like to get rid of since I have
no use for them anymore:

Oil Filter
Headlight
DOA Tech Manual (small)
PJ Grady Tech Manual (huge)

If interested in any of them, please let me know. It was fun having the
car and thanks to everyone who gave help and support while I had it.

Yes I can answer that question!

I recently replaced both head and exhaust gaskets on my 81 DMC.

I used standard Volvo gaskets, which were the same as far as required
holes
and alignment. My repair shop did the work saving the old gaskets for me
to
see. I was told that the exhaust gaskets can fail in engines that sit for
long periods which was the case with my DMC. I also used the same standard
Volvo gaskets for the water pump and the pan.

YOU SHOULD HAVE NO PROBLEMS USING VOLVO PARTS AND GASKETS.

Hello, all!

I'm new to the list and subscribed out of pure fascination for the car
and the company.  Also, I wanted to review the comments from owners of
the cars and see what I could expect if I purchase one.  Anyway, to the
point...I was wondering if there is any pictoral history books out there
about the DMC-12.  Bookstores have yielded nothing.  I'd appreciate any
help here.  Thanks!

Subject: RE:DML: Un-Storage Questions

Regarding taking a car out of storage ... here are some thoughts

1) One of the suggestions for taking a boat out of storage is to squirt
engine fogging oil into the cyliners before starting.  This provides oil
to
the cylinders prior to getting the normal engine oil circulating.  When
the
engine starts there will be quite a cloud of smoke.

2) Pull the fuel pump and boot from the tank and check to see if the boot
is
turning to tar.  If it is you'll know as soon as you touch the boot
exposed
to the inside of the tank.  Replace and clean as required.

3) Drain the old gas.  Don't be tempted to use it for any other engine,
it
won't run well.  You can use it as a solvent, especially if you have
problems with #2.

4) I would put a container of Chevron injector cleaner in the tank at
substantially higher than normal concentration(eg. one container to 2 or
3
gallons).  Then, using a jumper, force the fuel pump on and circulate the
fluid.  wait a day or so and do it again.  When running the pump, make
sure
you can hear the fuel returning to the tank.  After you do this a couple
times, replace the filter.

5) I prefer having a quick way of disconnecting the battery in case of
problems(eg. sticking starter(had this with a boat once), fire etc.).
There
is too much voltage drop by setting the battery outside the car and
connecting with jumper cables.  The best way is to have the correct size
wrench ready and the battery accessable.

6) Altough probably not a high probability with this car, having a fire
extigisher handy and the engine covers up is always a wise precaution.

These are my suggestions.  There may be more or better.  You be the judge.

twice since I've bought it last monday.  The door has 2 locks that lock
the

able
to open the door and unstick the lock?? Any help would be

Along the same line.... does any one know if there are any high
compression
head gaskets available for the D?  Way back there were such things
available
for Chevy etc. they were just thinner than stack & would reaise the
compression a little.  Between that & planing the heads you could get a
little more HP.

Subject: DML: Craig tape deck flex circuit update

Well, I finally got some information back from the
company I have looking into making a reproduction
flex circuit for the Craig tape decks.  Bottom line
is that this part is not going to be cheap.  The
best estimate I have for non-recoverable
engineering (designing the replacement) and
manufacturing setup costs is between $6000 and
$8000.  This would result in a run of around 100
pieces.  This means that just the part will be between
$60 and $80, not including shipping, installation,
warranty, etc.  Given that 'new' replacements decks
are running around $250, is there still interest in
having this part made?  If so, are you willing to
prepay?

Subject: DML: Squeaky Suspension

Hi, everyone,

Since buying my car in October, I have been driving it at least once every
week or two.  During late November and early December, due to business
travel, I did not drive the car for about 4 weeks.  When I took it out for
a spin I noticed the right, front suspension had a squeak.  It seems to be
coming from the area of the lower suspension bushing, on the frame end.
Has anyone else out there experienced a squeaky suspension?  Is there a
cure for this, other than disassembly and a rebuild?

Is there a lubrication/maintenance procedure?  I'm hoping it's something
as
minor as doing a lube job.   I am still looking for someone who has a
maintenance manual for sale at a reasonable price.  Also, does it help to
jack up the car when I leave it dormant for a few weeks?

Any information would be appreciated.

This is something that I could probably do faster myself then trying to
explain
how to do it.   First,  make sure we both understand what the other is
talking
about.   The doors have 2 "LATCHES".  One at the front and one at the
back.
These "LATCHES" can either be in the OPEN or LATCHED possition.   Each of
these "LATCHES" can also be "LOCKED  or UNLocked ".
With me so far ?  :-)

OK,  probably what has happened is the connecting rods have gotten out of
adjustment
or the latch handle is not returning to the fully down possition and cause
the latch to
jam.    You first will have to remove the door panels,  The top one first
"PULL HARD"
and then the bottom will come off with a few screws and fir-tree
connectors.   disconnect
the connecting rod from the belcrank assembly from the front latch, Its
the
one that has the
cable attached that runs from the outside door handle,  not the one that
connects
to the lock motor.   Slightly push the rod toward the latch assembly.
Then, move
the lock button into the "unlock" position (forward).  Then,  pull the 2
rods and this
should open the door.  If not, then you may have either a bad latch or the
lock
adjustment may be wrong.     I don't know if this helped of just confused
you even more.
Like I said,  its easier to do than try to tell someone how to do it.
If this works, then just
leave the door open and have someone help you find the problem by
operating
the
latch clamps by hand while you sit  and make adustments.   Tie a heavy
weight to the
door to keep it at a good height so you can work on it.

Hi List,
After searching for aprox 6 months and viewing 30-35 different
DeLorean's I have purchased VIN#2390 1981 black int., 5spd!! The
passenger window dosent move, doors only lock from passenger side with
the key, relays need changing, and a SS header bottle too. Speedo angle
drive and some A/C work needs to be done. The body is almost perfect and
the int looks great for the 69K miles its got on it. Of interest to some
my purchase price was $9,500. The car was serviced since new by PJ Grady
and last service was at 61K miles and all service records came with the
car. It runs great, but does leak some coolant, which I think will be
fixed with the SS header bottle and upper coolant hose kit. I live
aprox. 10 minutes from The Jag Shop, in Pompano Beach, FL which has been
advertised in the last few issues of DeLorean World in the DMC Houston
advertisement. This makes DeLorean ownership easier knowing that David
Wynne can perform all DeLorean repairs. Anyway, anyone located in South
Florida that owns a DeLorean email me and we can go for a cruise. I am
glad this mailing list is available and is one of the biggest reasons I
did purchase the 'D' Much thanks to James Espey for providing this
forum, which is where I have learned everything about our beloved car in
the last few months! I will see you in Cincinnati in June!

the
radio works fine so 60-80 bucks would not be out-of-line (in my opinion.)

I received an excellent copy in the mail last week for $17 + S&H from
an internet site selling automotive books. (It was the last one.)  I
would suggest going through all the search engines and looking that
way for its title.

Good luck!  It's quite a good book for information and photos.

3) What's the deal with DeLorean One, I have never heard a good story

I had an auto shop take the fluid pan off my auto tranny, and the guy at

in the pan.  He said he doesn't work on transmissions, so he just put the
pan back on, and told me to have it towed to a transmission shop... I was
hoping someone out there might have an idea on what could have busted in
the transmission to leave metal fragments in the pan, and approximate

The auto reverse is broken on your player. The flex circut only controlls
the
display. The auto reverse was broken on my tape deck as well. I was told
it
was the logic board and reverse motor and that no new replacement parts
available. The shop informed me I was on my own finding used parts so I
bailed
on that project. I did however individualy wire every one of the flex
board
wires. My display now works but the tape deck will not with this fix. As
mine
didnt work anyway...it didnt matter.

Turns out that I put the wrong dates in the Cincinnati Show banner that I

you added the HTML to your page that I posted, your graphic is now right,
but the ALT text needs to have the dates changed from "13-15" to "12-14".

If you "lifted" the graphic from the DMC-News website, you should go abck

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and thank all of those who
