Re: [doc] engine

Hi Thomas

I'll chime in because nobody else has... I'm afraid it's a "how long is
a piece of string" question though. You need to look for vacuum leaks,
check the timing's dead on 13 degrees at idle, that the CPR gets vac
when cold, that the dizzy gets it when hot, that the vac advance
solenoid is plugged in and works correctly (look at your hose routing
diagram which should be stuck to your engine cover). If it picks up and
drives fine and doesn't have an obvious misfire, just a lumpy idle, then
it probably is either a dodgy metering head or one or more injectors.
Lumpiness (basically the engine wobbles and misfires occasionally but
not every revolution) is quite common and is usually related to an
imbalance across the six ports.

The metering head and the injectors are working at minimum capacity at
idle. It's at the lowest possible flow that problems usually show
themselves.

I'll talk you through a slightly unorthodox trick I use if you give me a
ring at the workshop tomorrow

Best Wishes
