Chris I know when I'm beaten, a trip to Halfords it is then. For the record I am not adverse to getting my hands dirty, I just want to make sure I don't add to my problems due to my (self confessed) limitations. I do now own a full Halfords professional socket set, 99% of which I'll never use! Certainly the cleaning of the connectors looks simple enough when the car is supported well enough to take the wheel off. As an aside, I am expecting my reconditioned startup regulator back shortly. How much to get such an item 'plated' or are their technical/practical reason not to do so? John (i spent how much at halfords!?)
