Test Track : The idiots guide!!!

Hi Chris et al,

Attached is the letter I sent to the Mayor last July. The Belfast address is on there. I havent got the PlanDept or NITouristBoard address at hand. 

I also attach a sketch plan I drew of the factory and context to explain what I was proposing (hope this interests all Listers and doesn't clog up your "Inbox!"). I also sent them a few Eurofest photos (helicopter view / carson track / our pre-drive walk round) to show the Track and our day of fun!

I understand that the aircraft factory next door is going through a crisis post sep. 11th. This may take the pressure off in the short term.

After last years Eurofest I wrote to the Mayor in Belfast (copied letter to Planning Dept., and Tourism Board) proposing that they should consider preserving the test-track as both an "Industrial Heritage Site," tourist attraction, and public open space/Park. I got a polite letter back saying thatall proposals would be considered.

   

The Govt are undertaking a major Study in Belfast at present looking at land use issues, etc ... unfortunately the site is privately owned/leased sodifficult for the Council to step on the toes of a big local employer if they did want to redevelop the track! 

   

I guess if there were enough letters from Individuals and DMC Clubs it may help draw their attention to the issue. The Study will be concluded in about 6 months so write now!

Just a wild idea here...

I think it would be great to have a small gathering of DeLoreans every year in Belfast, just driving the factory test track! (With Montupets permission of course!) How about it Robert? :-)

   

After all, who knows when the test track will be gone forever :-(

Hmm, shouldn't the test track be preserved for the future as part of our cars history and heritage? I definitely think so, yet Im a hopeless nostalgic and dreamer ;-)


I understand that this is prime property for Montupets expansion, yet I would be very sad if it disappeared... What do you others think?

   

On a related subject - does anyone know if there were made technical drawings/plans for the test track, or was it just "built" there and then only with a few tips and hints on how they wanted it - without any drawings at all? I'd like to know the measurements, distance, curve degree etc. 

If someone has a greenfield site a replica test track could be built ;-)
