Message----- Darren,
I am currently in the process of purchasing a Delorean, and am also having
problems with insurance. I have finance for the car, and a great car too, but
insurance is a killer. For fully comprehensive insurance, being 21, I was
looking at £5500 a year. If I'm a named driver on my fathers policy, withhis
10 years no claims taken into account, it is still £1200. So you see, little
bit a of pain being under 25. The over thirty thing was crap however. If I was
25 or over, the insurance would come down to £185 per year on my fathers
policy. Killer huh. Best thing to shop like I am. I haven't given up hope yet,
but it is an uphill struggle at present. Martin has a few contacts which I'm
going to try out this week, and see where we go from there.
As for importing a car from the US, best to ask
Martin again on that one, he and his friend both imported a D at the same time.
They'll be able to give you loads of info on imports, taxes, legalities etc.
It's not the cheapest dream in the world, I've learnt that much, but I know
it's worth every effort to make it happen. Good luck,

Message----- Hi, Please could you people offer me some advice? I have been
interested in Delorean cars for a while now and saw my first one the other
week, it drove past my house in Hessle, I have been checking with insurance companies and they will not
insure me as I am only 21. A guy I spoke to at some AA company said most places
would only insure me on such a car if I was over the age of 30, but I’m sure I
have spoken to somebody in this DOC mailing list by email who had one and they
were not 30. Does anybody know any companies that would insure me and what
price am I likely to be looking at? Also how much does it cost (roughly) to ship a Delorean over from
the Thanks for any help offered. Darren Atkinson
