Nick J, With regards erratic speedo readings, you should remember that most older cars had the speedo drive taken direct off the back of the gear box, where it just sat nice and still, and worked for years. With the Delorean, as the gear box is well back in the car it was decided to take the drive from the front wheel, with all its turning and vibration an muck thrown up. It therefore is not surprising that it surfers more failure than a more conventional set up. There have been other cars using a similar system, but I can't remember which ones.
